ThreadBare

I used to, up until my college days.

I used to use the model of Old Testament justice. Some friends of mine, after much arguing and debating, got me to see how the American justice system is nowhere near the perfect model set forth by God in the Old Testament, especially given the disparity in sentences for rich, white defendants and poor, minority ones (and even more for those of the latter whose victims are white).

So, no, not anymore.

I don't like saying that I would want someone to die...but I would have a hard time believing that if one of my loved ones was murdered. sad

I do not believe in the death penalty, and I hate when people say this when I tell them so. If god forbid, anyone I love was murdered I would not want thier killer put to death. The death penalty is to civilized a shot in the arm and then a peaceful sleep as your heart slowly stops is not what I want a murderer to feel.I want them to live in a little cell, boxed in for the rest of thier lives suffering for what they have done. I do not believe in revenge,I believe in justice.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

my brother was murdered in 1979, and i still do not believe in the death penalty. for me, i believe there is a difference between justice and revenge. wanting those persons dead would be a function of hatred and revenge rather than justice. i know others can disagree and that is fine. but, that's my opinion.

you also obviously believe in paying for their t.v's, college education, drugs/medical procedures, fast food, and every other luxury convict are able to access while in prison. i believe in 'do unto others as you would have done unto you'...i believe every punishment should fit the crime. if there is unrefutable evidence (dna...etc) then murderers should be put to death...rapists should...well you get the picture.

Sometimes you feel like certain individuals deserve what they dish out, but in the end, it's not for us to decide. Who am I to take away a life? I do not support the death penalty. No way!

Yup.

Let's dispell the biggest lie about the death penalty... The cost. Many say that it costs more to put someone to death than to keep them in prison for life. This is not true. The cost comes from the endless appeal process, not putting someone to death.

The only argument that challenges my stance on the death penalty is that of executing innocent people. However, there are cases where the evidence is overwhelming and unquestionable as to someone's guilt and in those cases I say fry the motherfucker.
