Have you ever heard somebody say they hate their mom or dad?

Could there be any good reason for somebody to say something like this?

Yes I have heard this before and most times it was deserved. Some people have horrible parents.

I've heard people say that and automatically go into "What an awful thing to say", but then I catch myself and remember that not everyone was blessed with loving, caring parents like I was.

Yes, there can be good reason.

During a particularly memorable domestic squabble, my mom called me a son of a bitch and I agreed with her. Does that count?

I hate my mum. She cheated on my Dad, lied to my face, made my sister cry and pissed off. If I ever find her lover I'll kill him just to spite her.

Tons of things I can say about my dad. To sum it up, he still owes me money and doesn't call me because he knows he can't borrow any more. The best part was that on Father's Day, he asked me for more money and I said no and he tried to make me feel guilty about it. And then there were the times he would call me up around 11pm at night, wake me up to ask for more money.

I do feel sorry for him though. He has mental problems. I think he suffers from anxiety, he's an alcoholic with diabetes and he can't stop drinking to take his medication, and guess what? He has a gambling problem. I love my dad and I wish he would get some help.

He thinks he can help himself. shrug I think it's pretty obvious that he can't, he's over 50 years old now...

I told him he needs to go to the doctor and tell them he suffers from anxiety.

This is true! Abuse of any kind, be it sexual, physical, or verbal, can be the only good reasons somebody should or would resent their parents. Something to remember, without your mother and father you wouldn't be here to say you hate them. So if you like your life or love yourself you should at least value them for making it possible for your existance.

Do you mean you say you hate him to others or you tell him directly that you hate him?

I was referring to conversations with others. I haven't spoken to my dad in about 8 years.

If I were to speak to him, I wouldn't say "I hate you." There are far more powerful words that would express what I truly feel and how his actions lead to this response.

BUT, I decided long ago that it's a waste of my breath to talk to him. It causes me more sorrow than it's worth...
