No one can "teach" you to be a hacker, you have to put in a lot of work yourself.

Most real hackers are self-taught. There's plenty of idiot 16-year-olds who just run tools they download, that they use without any real understanding. These guys are called "script kiddies" and they aren't real hackers, they are just a pain in the ass. These are the people who get into "hacking" because they "want to read their mates' email" etc. Sad.

If you want to be a hacker, there are many different areas and aspects of hacking. Some people are particularly into satellite systems, or cellular networks. Some people are into low-level network programming. Some people are into crypto and smartcards. Etc etc.

If there is a specific aspect of hacking you are interested in, I'm sure I can refer you to some reading material. Of course, I don't endorse or condone illegal behaviour. (ahem)

However if you really "don't know shit about computers" you really can't be a hacker. Go learn about computing technology, networks, and programming and maybe then you can start getting into (in)security. Most real hackers are professional programmers...

Remember, if you aren't a nerdy coder like me, hacking is dead boring. You might think (if you trusted Hollywood) that hacking was exciting and sexy, but it isn't. It takes patience, hard work, and lots of time. People who think they want to be hackers usually just want "power" without being willing to do any of the work to get it... or they want to impress their mates by reading their email. These are not good reasons to become a "hacker" smile

smile Well then you better learn how to be a programmer, and get into network programming, and read up on TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, mail delivery and all the bits that make the internet work. Then you'll need to start trawling through security advisories, known bugs and exploits, and finding your own holes that you can take advantage of.

But of course, that would be illegal smile

Believe me, you can't learn it overnight, which is why there are no "Hacking for Dummies" books out there. Being a hacker is a lifestyle choice and takes years of nerding before becoming a fully qualified nerd biggrin
