I worked with a lot of teenaged girls when I was teaching at Planned Parenthood. Some names (I am NOT making these up):

I know of this married woman who had a baby last year, and she and her husband named the baby girl Delaney! That has got to be the UGLIEST name I've ever heard, since to me, it sounds like the name of a car or something.

My niece is named Delaney. I didn't like the name at first, but as I've gotten to know her, love her and watch her grow, I don't mind the name anymore. smile mushy

Yeah, it almost sounds like Sade, doesn't it? But Tequila and Bacardi? disbelief Parents who name their children after hard liquor got problems, IMO. May as well name them Cannabis or Heroin.

A girlfriend of mine worked with teenage mothers too. She had one mother that named her children FoShawn (cause she had the baby for Shawn, the dad's name) and Myown (cause she was raising the baby on her own...).

But generally apeaking, I love unique names, like Delainy or Athena, or whatever.

With the new millenium, and even before the new millenium came, this seems to be a rapidly spreading trend. I guess people are sick of the standard names (John, Mary, etc.) so they call their kids these wacko names that are not even attractive. sad

I know of this married woman who had a baby last year, and she and her husband named the baby girl Delaney! That has got to be the UGLIEST name I've ever heard, since to me, it sounds like the name of a car or something. omfg Now I know how cruel kids can be, since I was picked on a lot as a kid, and when this little girl starts school, she'd better be tough to fight off the school bullies when they tease her about her unusual name. I certainly would not want to give my kid some of these newfangled names that have been surfacing lately. rolleyes

 nancy you know i love you...BUT

DELANEY is my sisters name...and its a beautiful traditional irish name...nothing strange about it. although you are of course entitaled to your opinion. biggrin

if you want "strange" listen to the names of my best freinds 3 kids:

Akilian Forest Ocean Theria
Morgan Connor Dean Swan Mathius
Roan Echo

im leaving out the hyphinated lastnames to protect all partys involved smile but with their last names...they all have long names...

i think people are trying to be original...and name their kids something with some meaning...all three of those names up there have very in depth meanings.

while i understnad what your saying...people are people..and..traditional mary john etc...is not exactly the norm anymore..maybe for some people...but not for others smile

hug nancy!
