I just read about this thing... do you know anything about it? The Playstation Portable...

Yeah man its about time Sony did a mobile gaming device!

Well my thoughts are that if anyone could realistically tackle Nintendo's huge monopoly of portable gaming consoles, it would have to be a very established consumer electronics giant like Sony. I reckon the Nokia N-Gage will fall flat on it's arse, whereas the Sony PSP has the Playstation brand going for it.

I'm not sure of the architecture yet... aparently it will have a 4.5" backlit TFT screen and USB sockets and stuff.

A few years back I predicted that Sony would get the Playstation 1 down onto a single chip, and be able to release a handheld PS1, and it would benefit from having ALL the Sony Playstation catalogue available for it from day one. Needless to say, if the PSP can play Playstation games (but probably on a smaller media) it will be very successful indeed.

Of course now that they have the PS2 down to a single chip too, you never know what they'll come up with Details from E3 in LA were pretty slim but it certainly takes the wind out of the sails of Nintendo's recent launch of the GBA SP. Great device, no good games for it though.

From what I read, it is using a 2.4" disc that holds 1.8 gigabytes of data!

Yeah still very thin on the details... I do hope the 3D hardware and the system architecture is similar to the PSone because it is a piece of piss to code for it, and of course there are loads of fabulous PSone games that could be revived...

No price has been announced.

They expect to release it by the end of 2004, so it is going to be a while.
