Arrrgh!!! Soap Scum!!! Does anybody else have problems removing soap scum from their bathroom? This is an ongoing, nasty problem for me, especially since I have hard water where I live. I have tried various soap scum removers with little success. I just spent a good amount of time trying to remove soap scum of my bathroom using bleach, which was a mistake, because even with a mask on my nose and mouth, I coughed so hard i nearly vomited.
Does anybody have a surefire way to get rid of soap scum? I know they have that stuff you can spray in your bathroom to prevent soap scum from building up (which I plan on using once I get rid of the soap scum) but I need to get rid of the soap scum first before I do that. Any suggestions?? RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Yep, we just spent 3 hours cleaning it off of ours last weekend. If it's really bad try something like CLR cleaner.

There are sprays you can get at your local dollar store that you spray on the shower walls after each bath. These will help prevent the soap scum from building up in the first place.
The bright side of all this is its wonderful to hear that you're a clean person and care about these things. I've seen so many of my friends bathrooms that totally disgust me.

We've had good luck with a product called "Orange Clean." I think the active ingredient is simply citric acid. Another thing that seems to help is using liquid "body wash" instead of bar soap. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

We found this environmentally safe stuff that I thought would be crap, but it's actually the best cleaner I've ever used. Works GREAT for soap scum. Good for floors and cars too. It's called Bio-Kleen Cleaner and Degreaser, and it has orange and grapefruit stuff in it. It's not stinky, either, which I appreciate. No fumes.

Thanks to everyone for your good suggestions. Kisscamille, my dad had used CLR in my parent's shower and he said that it worked great. Luckily, he still had half of a bottle of it left, so he let me borrow it. Tomorrow after my job interview, I'm going to get rid of that soap scum once and for all - lol! Once I do that, I will be sure to use the shower spray stuff after every shower so that this problem does not return. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
