My father is in surgery in Mpls. right now as I type this.

I knew this was the day of his surgery, and I tried to call him last night to say hello, good luck, I love you, and all that, but no one answered the phone. I am seven hours ahead of Mpls. time, so that means that he's in the middle of it right now. I probably won't hear the results until later today from my mom and sister.

I was wondering why I was feeling really wound up and nervous. It's hard when you live in a different country and someone in your family is sick.

I'm sorry to hear that... hopefully everything is going well and you will be able to talk to him soon.

I understand the whole helpless feeling thing... my wife is still waiting for word from some of her family (including her father) in Japan who live in one of the cities hit by the earthquake yesterday. All the phones are down so there isn't much we can do...

Thanks. Yes I heard about that quake. I was San Francisco for the big one in '89 and it was the same situation for the rest of our family that didn't live there. I'm hope her family is ok. That sucks.

My mom goes in for surgery next Monday... ...while I know in my heart she'll be fine, it's still stressful...and I'm only on the other side of the country, not out of the country like you are...

UPDATE:
My dad's surgery is over now and he's doing fine I guess. There is still recovery time, but he should be okay. I spoke with my mom and she said he was awake, but I haven't talked to him myself yet because he's all doped up on morphine right now.
