Terry Pratchett. Writer of the Discworld novels. How many are there now? Somewhere between 30 and 35, I guess.

His short novels are the best I think, the 20something books got too thick and too confused. I like it simple and straightforward.

Even the biographies in his books are fun to read;
"Terry Pratchett was born in 1948 and is still not dead. He started work as a journalist one day in 1965 and saw his first corpse three hours later, work experience meaning something in those days. After doing just about every job it's possible to do in provincial journalism, except of course covering Saturday afternoon football, he joined the Central Electricity Generating Board and becam epress officer for four nuclear power stations. He'd write a book about his experiences if he thought anyone would believe it.

All this came to an end in 1987 when it became obvious that the Discworld series was much more enjoyable than real life work. Since then the books have reached double figures and have a regular place in the bestseller lists. He also writes books for younger readers. Occasionally he gets accused of literature."

My favourites would be almost every one that features Granny Weatherfax, but especially "Witches Abroad". I just love the way Pratchett takes common things like fairytales and turns them inside out to fit his purposes.

Like I said; Pratchett kind of lost me with books 25 to 30 (or there abouts) with thick novels that could not really interest me, but re-reading his old stuff gets the spark burning again.

His other series; the ones he supposedly wrote for kids, are fun too, especially the Johhny series.

Death. Too funny. He ain't a bad guy, he's just cleaning up the mess.

My favourite character is prolly Nanny Ogg with death coming a close second-I think solely because of the Hedgehog song...
