I experience the same thing in the dance world. I go to see performances and usually end up disgusted because it will end up being something totally minimalist, with "dancers" rolling all over the floor and running around in circles trying to convey some obscure politcal message to the audience.

I am very rooted in tradition when it comes to dance (art) and it just makes me think there is no future for me in this genre anymore. sigh I mean, you train your whole life in a classical art, and then it's dancers who just started "movement classes" a couple of years ago that get all the funding and praise.
