please dont move this thread.........its not really about music

a few nights ago...someone asked about the country music awards...i said i like country music and was met with some less than nice remarks...

my question is ...why is country music met with such a negative reaction...

i mean theres george strait, garth brooks, tim mcgraw, toby keith, kenny chesney, nitty gritty dirt band, mongomery gentry, brooks and dunn...these are all great artists...

where did the negative country movement come in and how ???

JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

While I don't really own much country music, I, for one, like some work in the genre. But I prefer the classic stuff overall to the newer, watered-down county/pop fusion.

Anyway, maybe people associate country music with the less fashionable stereotypes of the "country lifestyle" -- divorce, pickup trucks, rifle-toting rednecks, NASCAR, rodeos, the WWF, booze, Bible thumping, Appalachian-style poverty, tacky shirts, tight jeans, mullets, etc.

evillol...

"i told him it was not the perfect country & western song, because he hadn't said anything at all about mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or getting drunk... he wrote another verse to the song and he sent it to me, and after reading it, i realized that my friend had written the perfect country & western song... last verse goes like this:

i was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
and i went to pick her up in the rain
but before i could get to the station in my pick-up truck
she got ran over by a damn old train"...

I've made no secret about my love of country music. The songs still tell a story (which I love) and the music is wonderful... I was actually raised with country music flowing in the background (along with many other styles, as my family were all musical and musicians), but were talking George Jones, Merle Haggard, Marty Robins, Loretta Lynn, Tania Tucker, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette...etc...

But in the 90's there was a new batch of writers and singers... I especially liked Garth when he first came out, but also Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakum, The Judds, George Strait, Vince Gill among others.

There's room in our minds for all types of music... I hate when people limit themselves.

Right now, I'm diggin' Mark Wills and Brad Paisley. One more thing, there's a new artist named Craig Morgan (I think) who sings a beautiful song called "Almost Home"... man, what a tearjerker. Beautiful.

Good God! You just described some old roommates I had when I lived in Dallas (suburb of Lewisville) Texas. Bo and Waylon...I kid u not...they both thought I was a freak because well, where do I start...gay, hispanic, blasted hip-hop and/or obscure stuff like Dead Can Dance in my room, read books (on purpose) and avoided their chummy Monday night football parties like the black death...but ultimately (politics aside) I think they were pretty decent guys...but I could never get past the idea that they only liked me because I think they honestly believed and I quote "you're not like most Mexicans," or my favorite, "you sure don't act like a homo."

But I grew up with country music and "classic rock," and I prefer the classic rock stuff. I mean, if I had no choice but the two and all.
