Horchata is mexican unless their is a spanish version. Blander than Gumbo but equally good??? Umm. OK. Well, Gumbo varies from house to house but is either spicier and or hotter even. Paella is very mild in seasoning. ( In my experience.)

I'm amazed at how many people think that Spanish means Hispanic.
Spanish means FROM SPAIN. In Latin America...which includes Mexico, all of Central America and most of South America, they speak Spanish (the language from Spain). If you are from ANY of these countries, you are Hispanic. So just because they speak Spanish in Spain and Mexico and Honduras and Panama and Argentina and Columbia, etc, etc, etc, that doesn't mean that they eat TACOS in ALL of those countries!!! I went to a Spanish restaurant once and had Paella. I wouldn't say that it was "blander" than Gumbo...just not so HOT & SPICY. It was good, but you have to like seafood. I enjoyed the dessert much more...Brazo de Gitano which was a kind of jelly roll. Muy Rico. BTW: Horchata is a New World thing...I doubt they have it in Spain. But if they do, try it. It's great. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Believe me horchata and paella both come from Valencia (Spain) and they (we) are very proud of it. But this is the mediterranean coast whereas the Basque country is in Northern Spain. Basque cuisine is amongst the best in the world. Try codfish or mariscos(shellfish) with wine. And it's not half as spicey as mexican food. P.S.Don't ask for a coke or ketchup.

In that case believe me. Order some dish made of codfish and peppers os similar. They're delicious and you will look like an informed person.
Or just ask them for advice. They also have very good vegetables recipes.
