The Matrix Reloaded (don't worry, I'll keep it spoiler free)

I saw a sneak of the new Matrix flick last night. The movie is good, but the first hour was incredibly slow. Hopefully, all that was set up for the next film. The last half had some incredible fight scenes, and fantastic effects, but just when the story started to get interesting, it goes into a "To Be Concluded". Good thing we only have to wait until November.

Ultimately, I think this chapter will be made better when the next film comes out, but I fully expect there to be a backlash against this one. There was no way for it to live up to the hype, and it will get judged harshly for it. The film is good, but it is the transitionary piece of the story.

On my movie report card, I give it an A for effort, with an overall grade of a good, solid B.

It did. I'd give it a C+ (+ for effort).

Aaah, my young Padewan learner. Isn't that the same thing everyone said about the disappointing Star Wars Episode I. Yet, Episode II was also disappointing. I certainly have the same hopes as you. I don't want the Matrix sequels to be the biggest disappointment in cinema history . . . let's leave that to S.W. Episode I.

I agree with JediMaster and I think Lammastide as well. The first hour was slow and the pacing was off. I had read earlier that test audiences said the same thing before it was released. I did like the fight scences though. smile It was fun. I actually like all the philosophical dialogue which was interesting. In an article I think it was Andy Wachowski who said that he and his brother knew the type of response it was going to get but wanted to keep that existential slant in the dialogue.

I especially liked Niobe and Ghost. They were interesting characters that should have been given more attention. Overall I wasn't that disappointed since I didn't pay too much attention to the hype which was HUGE. Rarely do things ever live up to that type of expectation. I'll go again just to try and pick up a lot of things that I missed the first time around.

The theater I saw it in SUCKED. First the movie started early which itself wasn't a problem but then ten minutes into the film, the projector malfunctioned and the film stopped. Man was the audience pissed. Then at the film's climax, the projector screwed up again and cast an image on screen where the bottom half was on top and vice versa. mad

Well, see that's my point. I actually liked this flick, but most people are not going to. Everyone is expecting this to be the most fantastic cinematic experience of their lives, and their is just no way the film can live up to those kinds of expectations. I wasn't all that dissapointed with it, because I really didn't think it was going to be the end-all, be-all of films.

The same was true for me of Episode I. I thought to myself at the time that their was no way that it could live up to the expectations that 16 years had wrought, so I wasn't dissapointed at all. (I completely disagree with you on Episode II, however. Other than Hayden's bad acting, I thought it was great. The battle between Yoda & Count Dooku was worth the price of admission alone).

This movie was a horrible piece of shit. This is what happens when Hollywood just wants to make a quick buck. It was basically just an F/X demonstration video.

Funny how Neo spent all that time fighting the Smith agents when all he had to do was fly away. So much pointless shit.

lol. I didn't think of that! I agree, but that wasn't the point. They just wanted to put a really cool fight scene there and him fighting all those guys was cool. The freeway stuff was cool too. I agree about the love-making/dance party stuff was too long. I didn't need to see the same bodies, titties, and ass re-looped. Overall, I loved it. That dialog in the main frame at the end confused me. I got it, but then I didn't

As a fellow Aussie, I've heard mixed reviews.

I'm sure it will be good, but I'm not expecting sheer mind-blowing brilliance. I thought the first one was very good within in its field, but had corny acting and dialogue...I am expecting this second one to be better than the first.

So far everyone I've spoken to says it sucks. It's sad that they spend so much time on special effects and choreography but don't give a shit about story. But that's hollywood for ya, 100% business.

Haven't seen the movie yet... it opens in the UK next week. Looking forward to it, but I'm not expecting much.

I just finished the video game ("Enter the Matrix") which was developed in parallel with the movie... it's a disjointed mess, basically feels like all the big movie footage is just a random collection of unused scenes that didn't make it into the movie. Pretty bad. Some cool combat bits in it, but the plot really makes no sense. Not even a bit. Don't get it, it fucking sucks.

It's out on all formats I think. I got the Xbox version, no particular reason. I guess the game is intended as a "companion" for the movie which is why it makes no sense by itself.

Anyway I don't rate the game very highly. Shiny (the developer) did a good job of the combat system but the rest of it bites. Plus I finished it within 24 hours of release.

Yeah you gotta get your value for money when you are shelling out like 40 quid or whatever...

I still haven't finished Metroid Prime, or Zelda The Wind Waker. So they were good value smile

Cheers My sister has Wind waker so I'm going to play that once she's finished. I liked the first N64 one and completed it so I know I'm going to enjoy the alternative version the comes with WW.

I played Metroid Prime and a mates and it has to be one of the most addictive games I've ever played. I'll buy it eventually.
