Calling all Brits-I have a question Do you have a custom of hailing the queen?
I live in the US. My grandmother was English and when I was young, everytime I would walk into her room she would ask me to hail the queen. I can't exactly remember what it was that I did to hail the queen but I remember her asking me to do it and I remember bowing and saying some phrase (probably "hail the queen"). I never really thought anything of it until I asked my siblings why they thought grandma did this and it turns out that she never asked any of my other siblings to do this. I then asked cousins if grandma had asked them to do this and it turns out that I was the only person she ever asked this from. I have also asked a few Brits here and there and nobody ever heard of this. Is this something that any Brits do or was this something special between me and my grandma? Some people have suggested that maybe it was a way for my grandma to acknowledge my being gay... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I believe they like to be referred to as "Poms."

It was a framed picture right on the wall next to the door as you entered the room... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I don't know any houses like this
Most people are sick of seeing royalty I am not overly keen on monachy(sp?) at all but its tradition and so it must be so... JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

It's not something I have heard of supa. When you meet the queen in person I guess people bow in her presence..but not so much anymore unless it is in a formal setting like a royal ceremony or such. I don't recall anyone hailing a picture of her.
Your grandma sounds like fun!

I think this was between you and your grandmother. Nobody I know has ever done this.
The gay line of thought sounds more plausable

Your grandma sounds like fun! My grandma was great! I miss her so much. I totally cracked up when I found out that she only did this with me. I have always wondered what it meant and never asked her before she passed away...and it turns out that this isn't even an English custom but a Hazelism (her name was Hazel). I love you grandma!! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Some 'guidance':
http://workabroad.monster...tiq022601/ I can only think that the expression, 'All Hail the Queen' or 'All Hail the King', would ever be used in Britain if someone was making or showing a film of royalty starring and written by non British people - or it was a spoof of a North American rewriting history. During the 20th Century, at least, you would possibly hear 'God save The Queen' or God Save The King' proclaimed on some state occasions attended by royalists. However, the announcement, 'All Hail The Queen' is just as likely to be heard (and is probably as equally inaccurate historically) in a film version of 'Cleopatra' or 'Nefertiti', for example. . My Grandma used to say to me:
"Nigel, son, if you ever meet the Queen, you should kiss her squarely on the ring. And if you ever meet Prince Phillip, you should kick him squarely in the balls!" I always found this odd? My name's not Nigel.
