Maybe Shaq has to lose the opportunity of a title or 2 to be hungry again, but there's gonna be some new faces on the team next season. If you look back at every team in the history of the NBA that ever won 3 consecutive titles, they ended up having a total of more than 3. Daddy Laker late in the season said he was going to spend more money next season, so I doubt there's another dozen year drought on the horizon (a la 1989-2000) with the two main players. There may never be another team to win 4 consecutive titles in any sport. It's extremely difficult for a number of reasons.

I really doubt the 3 big personalities would mesh. I'd be shocked if Jerry Buss and Mitch Kupchak wanted Malone. I heard Alonzo Mourning was available. He's not a Forward, but Shaq needs a backup, and I don't think Mourning can play as a starter. I could be totally wrong. Scotty Pippen wants to be a Laker. But I'm not too keen on the older players people are talking about. Both Malone and Pippen are closer to 40 than 30. I really don't want Malone. Forced to choose I'd take Pippen's old ass.

Plus, Malone is hanging on to get the all time scoring title; he won't get the opportunities with the Lakers for that.

I'd take Malone,&Payton Starting with Pippen off the Bench.I still believe with Jerry West we would have been better prepared for this Run IMHO.we can't have another Year of being exposed so badly on the Power Forward Spot&at the Guard spot not being able to move around Picks&Screens.gotta get those spots covered.on the Bench Side we gotta add some true role Players.I know Phil Jackson is upset because Jerry West got more out of the Grizzles than we did with the Bums we have on our Bench.I Miss West&this Summer will put Kupchak on the Hot Seat to See if He has what It takes as a GM.
