This morning I hear a woman stones 2 of her children to death, and now I get this email from a professor at Brown:

Please take a few minutes to read the following and then please add your

AMINA LAWAL SET TO BE STONED ON 3RD JUNE


The Nigerian Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Amina
Lawal, condemned for the crime of adultery on August 19th 2002, to be
buried
up to her neck and stoned to death. Her death was postponed so that she
could continue to nurse her baby. Execution is now set for June 3rd. If
you
haven't been following this case, you might like to know that Amina's
baby
is regarded as the 'evidence' of her adultery. The father denied
everything
when he realised the trouble he was in.

Amina's case is being handled by the Spanish branch of Amnesty
International, which is attempting to put together enough signatures to
make
the Nigerian government rescind the death sentence. A similar campaign
saved
another Nigerian woman, Safiya, condemned in similar circumstances. By
March
4th the petition had amassed over 2,600,000
signatures.

I've heard of this woman. Her case was on Oprah. I can't believe things like this are still going on in the world.

Call me ignorent but I only just discovered that the US still have the death penalty a few weeks ago. I was sat having a meal out with mates and the subject came up. I knew some contries still had it but I didn't know the US was one of them. I was in shock. I hope one day it will be stopped by all (regardeless if some criminals deserve it. It just ain't right)

This is why Religion and government should never mix. This is a largely Islamic state and this woman is being punished according to the Islamic law observed by the government.

Notice how no man is being punished in this scenario?

In my experience Americans are lovely. I've met a few over here in the UK (Some just in passing, on a train, in a shop etc) and some are friends or mine. They are the lovelist people you could want to meet. Friendly and like to talk and be polite. I love Americans. Anyone who is anti American is just crazy in my view. Pandurito not all Americans do believe in the death penalty. I don't hear of too many death penalty cases anymore, I think it's tougher for someone to get the death penalty now.

But stoning someone to death? I think that's more on the lines of torture. I'd rather die by lethal injection and the electric chair than to be stoned to death.

And to be stoned to death because of adultery? What happenes to the father of this child? He's just as guilty, and even so neither deserve to die because of it.

I am for the death penalty in America, but only under certain circumstances. I won't get into my exact reasons for supporting this, mostly because getting into the death penalty discussion is opening a can of worms that no one will ever agree on.

I am an American though, but I don't live in the U.S. anymore.
