Richard Pryor - Funny as hell, the original Mofo.
George Carlin - Came up with some original shit... 7words you can't say on television. lol
John Cleese - Great on Monty Python, Great on "A Fish Called Wanda"... lately... eh.
Robin Williams - He isn't as funny as he used to be when he was tweakin' on Coke.. 8) When I see him now, he still gets a couple of chuckles outta me...
Bill Murray - Comedy genius. Great timing, best sarcasm...
Eddie Murphy - Too many kid flicks under his belt... move on Eddie, let's get a "Delirious Part 2" goin' on, cuz, "Raw" was only okay!
Jim Carrey - Stand up was good, tv was okay... his first films rocked... "Bruce Almighty" is lookin' good.
Chris Rock - was okay on SNL. Better on "Bring On The Pain", "Bigger & Blacker" was okay... he's cool.
Mike Myers - Another genius. Although he never did stand up, his movies are fantastic. Great character creator.

John Cleese tired dry nonsence

omfg

You clearly haven't seen Monty Python, or Fawlty Towers for that matter.

You fucking people scare me sometimes!

fawlty towers is classic.

but i havent seen any of his stand up

He isn't / wasn't a standup comic. But then, nor are most of the people listed in this thread.

John Cleese did comedy sketch shows like Monty Python's Flying Circus. He also wrote for stuff like the Frost Report (along with the other Pythons) earlier in his career. After Python he went on to do Fawlty Towers and some less-than-stellar movies. Still his Python contributions assure his place in comedy heaven.

George Carlin is the best! End of story! I like to refer to him as the 'common sense' comedian.
Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean). Ok, maybe he's not a 'stand-up' type of comedian, but I'll count him as my other favourite! And I just bought "The Whole Bean" The entire Mr. Bean collection.
Brilliant I tell ya!!

Richard Pryor One of the greats, I love his stuff
Geoarge Carlin Never heard of him WHAT?!
John Cleese A comedy genius! I thank him for Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers etc. But not for Clockwise or Fierce Creatures etc
Robin Williams Don't really have an opinion. He's a bit American for my tastes. AMERICAN? Well.. (Toots head up)
Bill Murray He's great, or rather, he was in some great movies
Eddie Murphy He used to be one of the funniest American comedians. Now he's just fat and rich and unfunny 4 YOUR INFORMATION, HE'S NOT FAT! AND YES HE IS FUNNY TOO!!!
Jim Carrey Was funny once. The joke has worn thin
Chris Rock I like Chris Rock, he's a very funny likeable guy NO HE IS NOT!!!
Mike Myers This guy is not as funny as he seems to think he is. Austin Powers movies are just the same joke over and over

oh my god, have we no taste?

Yes, I have taste, and I also have a sense of humour. If guys like Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and Mike Myers even FEATURE on a list of great comedians, I weep for American comedy I really do.

But hey, whatever makes you giggle.

As for me not knowing who the fuck George Carlin is... don't be upset, but he just hasn't made any impact on the world out of comedy outside of the USA. Since I am not from the USA, I haven't heard of him. Get over it.

Actually, I like Rowan Atkinson's stand-up better than Mr. Bean. But I do love the Bean stuff too, and also him in the Black Adder series.

Robin Williams: The Livewire.

Bill Murray: Good on SNL. Very good in Wes Anderson flicks. Great in Caddyshack.

Eddie Murphy: The Natural.

Jim Carrey: funny.

Chris Rock: Eddie Murphy meets Lenny Bruce.

Mike Myers: Can be droll and base at the same time.

Okay, u r ipso facto cool with me as a Laker fan but I get the feeling u don't know much about Richard Pryor if all u can say is he was the grandfather of "fart and shit comedy." He was much more than that.

Vibrator

Richard Pryor - A very physical comedian and funny as such. Not too good with word jokes though.

George Carlin - Who?

John Cleese - A master at making embarrassing situations become funny as hell. Seems to be good at improvisations too.

Robin Williams - Only funny when he is impersonating people. Generally just the "sad clown" type (always has a lot of sadness and sentimentality underneath the comedy).

Bill Murray - Always on top of my list. A truly great comedian who knows the art of being extremely funny without making an effort. Wonderful sarcasm, sharp intelligence, cool style.

Eddie Murphy - To me there are two Eddie Murphys. One who is mostly sweet but occasionally very, very funny in most of his movies. And the other who is mostly obnoxious but occasionally very, very funny in "Raw" and his other live stand-up performances.

Jim Carrey - His finest moment is when he is trying to make up his mind whether or not to go to the christmas party in The Grinch. He does have a sense for comedy but generally overdoes most things.

Chris Rock - Too loud.

Mike Myers - Not funny at all! Even laughs at his own jokes on a regular basis, which I think is a definite no-no. He has no timing, no intelligence, nothing.
