MILK

---> How much milk do you drink a day.

I always had a glass of milk for breakfast and one before bed, when I was younger.

Now it goes in cereal or tea and coffee.

Sometimes I crave a glass of ice cold milk, and forget how nice it is to drink.

--->Do you drink full fat, semi-skimmed, skimmed, goats, soya milk or any other kind?

big grin Just wondering, that is all.

Sometimes I drink soy milk, but only if it's vanilla flavored.

I consume quite a bit of milk in one day. I like to drink it just for the fun of it, but most of it comes from serious cereal eating.

I don't eat cereal of a morning during the week, but I always have 2-3 bowls when I get in from school. Then, it's also my pre-bedtime snack... 2-3 bowls of cereal once again.

On weekends, you can add 2-3 bowls for breakfast. I'm a pig, I guess. And I always drink all of the milk out of my bowl when I'm finished.

The half gallon in the fridge seems to be Viatamin D milk... The gallon is 2% Reduced Fat milk.

I can't say I really have a preference to the type, except it preferrably comes from cows and isn't skim. biggrin

I am a total milkaholic!!
I am constantly drinking milk!! The trouble is its the whole milk and not the semi-skimmed stuff!! So, hence, it puts on weight!!
Also, I have read in various health magazines and books, that milk is not as good for u as u may think so!Really, the best healthy drink that is totally 100% good for u is good old-fashioned water!!! lol

I can remember when I was a little youngster at school we got tiny bottles of a milk that we drunk at 11am with a red straw.

In the winter it was delivered frozen, very difficult to drink.

Does anyone still get milk delivered by a milkman these days? I bet not many, they are nearly extinct.

The birds always used to peck the milk tops when the milk was left on our doorstep, and drink the cream the little shits! lol

lol ah sweet memories.

As for the original question, I love milk its about the only non-alcoholic drink that I sup.

I usually drink 2 to 3 pints a day, semi-skimmed mostly but occasionly I treat myself to full fat.

Never was much of a milk drinker. Don't like it. I stick to Mocha Mix when I need milk. And even that I don't drink straight, I use it in cereal and cook with it.

None. Not allergic to it or anything... I just would rather drink other things.

I drink a lot of soymilk. Westsoy and Silk both make very nice flavored and plain soymilk.

Cows milk is bad. It's not good for you; unless it's skim, it contributes to cardiovascular disease, and much of the calcium "doesn't count" because it comes packaged with animal protein, which causes protein to be lost from the bones. The US has the highest per capita consumption of dairy products in the world, alongside the highest rates of osteoporosis. And yet people beleive the dairy industry hype. Geezus.

Not to mention the horrendous cruetly towards the cows, and most especially to the male calves who become veal in one of the most disgusting displays of human brutality I'm aware of.

Try soy. smile

Do you ever have a milk moustache after drinking it? big grin

I used to drink it with a straw and blow bubbles into it and see how many bubbles I could make and how high out of the glass the mass of bubbles would reach before they popped or spilled.

I used to drink flavoured 'Crusha' milk drinks when I was young too. Banana raspberry chocolate lime toffee vanilla

Do you like flavoured milk drinks. Personally they turn my stomach now - too sweet although I can never turn down vanilla, never.

This is just an opinion that is backed up by a wealth of data, but...

MILK SUCKS...

FOR THE ANIMALS:
Corporate-owned factories where cows are warehoused in huge sheds and treated like milk machines have replaced most small family farms. With genetic manipulation and intensive production technologies, it is common for modern dairy cows to produce 100 pounds of milk a day— 10 times more than they would produce in nature. To keep milk production as high as possible, farmers artificially inseminate cows every year. Growth hormones and unnatural milking schedules cause dairy cows' udders to become painful and so heavy that they sometimes drag on the ground, resulting in frequent infections and overuse of antibiotics. Cows -- like all mammals -- make milk to feed their own babies -- not humans.

Male calves, the "byproducts" of the dairy industry, endure 14 to 17 weeks of torment in veal crates so small that they can't even turn around. Female calves often replace their old, worn-out mothers, or are slaughtered soon after birth for the rennet in their stomachs (an ingredient of most commercial cheeses). They are often kept in tiny crates or tethered in stalls for the first few months of their lives, only to grow up to become "milk machines" like their mothers.

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT:
Cow's milk is an inefficient food source. Cows, like humans, expend the majority of their food intake simply leading their lives. It takes a great deal of grain and other foodstuffs cycled through cows to produce a small amount of milk. And not only is milk a waste of energy and water, the production of milk is also a disastrous source of water pollution. A dairy cow produces 120 pounds of waste every day -- equal to that of two dozen people, but with no toilets, sewers, or treatment plants.

In Lancaster County, Pa., manure from dairy cows is destroying the Chesapeake Bay, and in California, which produces one-fifth of the country's total supply of milk, the manure from dairy farms has poisoned vast expanses of underground water, rivers, and streams. In the Central Valley of California, the cows produce as much excrement as a city of 21 million people, and even a smallish farm of 200 cows will produce as much nitrogen as in the sewage from a community of 5,000 to 10,000 people, according to a U.S. Senate report on animal waste.

FOR YOUR HEALTH:
Dairy products are a health hazard. They contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol. They are contaminated with cow's blood and pus and are frequently contaminated with pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. Dairy products are linked to allergies, constipation, obesity, heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.

As people become more aware of the connection between diet and health, vegetarianism has become increasingly popular. Yet many vegetarians still justify their consumption of dairy products on the ground that milk is necessary for physical well being and that milk production is of no harm to cows whatsoever.

Naturally speaking, fresh, unprocessed milk has an incredibly high fat content. Why? Because milk, in essence, is food for the newborn calf, not the human.

Quite unnaturally, human beings are the only mammals that drink the milk of another species and the only animals that drink milk after infancy. This prolonged consumption of a food stuff naturally designed for the developing body of the calf results in such conditions as osteoporosis (the loss of bone mass from too much calcium), kidney stones, lactose intolerance, breast cancer, heart disease, breast development in males and the decrease in the age at which children reach puberty (both due to the presence of estrogen in milk).

On February 3, 1994 the FDA revealed its stamp of approval on the syringe containing science's new "break through," synthetic Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH). It should have come as no surprise that, along with the approval, came repeated confirmations of safety from a variety of media sources. After all, since there are no FDA requirements for labels on any dairy products containing rBGH, the fear that consumers may stop buying milk had to somehow be pacified.

And dairy products may actually cause osteoporosis, not prevent it, since their high-protein content leaches calcium from the body. Population studies, backed up by a groundbreaking Harvard study of more than 75,000 nurses, suggest that drinking milk can actually cause osteoporosis.
