I'm sure I've lost my touch, and I won't attempt any jumps and twists because I'll more than likely injure myself... but, I'm sure I can still skate... you can't really forget a thing like that, can you? We'll see...

smile

Wish we still had one close by! The closest one I know
of is about 45 minutes from me. Me and my kids would be there all the time if it was closer. Not only a good way to tire out the kids but great excercise, too!

WOW! Let me just say... that ROCKED!

lol

Here's the run-down... age ranges during the week in the afternoon were about 5-15 or so... Not too many young, young kids there. The very few adults that were there didn't seem to want to put on skates, as I was the only one above 15 with skates on! big grin

The first thing I wondered was, "Where in the HELL is the DJ?" There isn't one. Not during the week anyway. They have this juke-box that pulls songs, from pretty much any album as far as I could tell, off of the internet! (No file sharing... but it said internet something on it... and I am VERY sick of that song by Justin Timberlake... if it wasn't bad enough that the kids tortured me with it there, over and over and over, we heard it so much my kids are now singing it... ugh!)... So, anyway... because of this machine... I then made my kids sit on the bench and I went out to skate to BLACK BETTY! YAY! (I didn't do too bad... I did keep both feet firmly planted on the ground though).

Anyway, on the weekends they have a DJ come in to select the music and take requests and do the "all boy", or "all girl" skate, etc..

It was fun! I suggest you all go out and go skate! My kids were HILARIOUS on skates! They've never been... what a riot! big grin

Luv4thepurple1: Oddly enough we have two nearby... the one I went to is only about ten minutes away... the other is a bit longer of a drive.

Thanks again for the thread, pejman... without it I never would have even thought about going skating! smile

woot! I am happy for you and your kids!!! Now I wanna go skate...I can see it already in my mind as I coordinate my feet not to fall flat on my arse!! One thing comes to mind from back in the day when all the girls would all line up along the wall and the lil boys would skate by slapping their hands... I admit it I was a major show off...hey nuttins changed.. wink

I'm almost tempted to go again this weekend... you know, just to go and report back to those who can't go. Not that I would WANT to skate or anything. wink

Yeah... I remember that, too. I also remember when the girl (or boys, when it was there turn), had to line up against the wall and the boys (or girls) would have to skate by and choose someone to skate with! That's when the turned the lights off and had the disco ball on! Whooo!

If you were good on your skates when you were younger, you shouldn't have a problem now... at first, I was like, "whoa"... but then after taking the kids out to hang on to their hands and skate them around I felt more comfortable... then, when I went out to skate by myself... it all came back. Skating forward... nearing a corner, turning around and skating backwards around it quickly so you can flip back around and go forward again... wind blowing through your hair! Good times! LOL... seriously, I loved it!

lol

I have an ear to ear smile as I read your posts!!! I loved skating around and crossing one leg over the other as I would glide around the oval circle everybody goes around in!! I really want to find a roller rink!!! I think I could handle regular skating but I wonder about the backwards thing...he he he now all we need is an emoticom on skates...

Yep! I used that "move" earlier today! Oh, you could handle the backwards thing... I'm certain of it!

I may have to, you know... go out and buy a pair of skates... just because, well, I'll NEED to have skates on to help them practice. big grin

Actually, I may have to have my brother come down. He skated up until the tore they rink down where I grew up (he worked there as his first job and still did it up until they tore it down for something fun to do on weekends... playing the music and screwing them up because he'd play something fast and then switch to something slow and he loves kids) ... anyway, he'd love it. He and I used to compete when we were younger. He puts me to shame. But, he is good with kids and would be able to teach my kids better than I could. I can skate, I just can't show someone else how to do it very well. I even caught myself saying... "No, no, no... you see me? Just do that!"... My daughter said, "But what ARE you doing?"... lol I'm not the most patient person in the world. smile

Whoa, Black Betty
BAM-BA-LAM

Azure...where the HECK did you hear this crazy-ass song? lol I've never heard it, but it seems like it'd be pretty cool. I don't know the tune so I'm making one up in my head... lol

Why at the roller rink, of course! If you ever take a listen to it, you will imagine dancing and skating to it on skates!

Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

Black Betty had a child (Bam-ba-Lam)
The damn thing gone wild (Bam-ba-Lam)
She said, "I'm worryin' outta mind" (Bam-ba-Lam)
The damn thing gone blind (Bam-ba-Lam)
I said Oh, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

Oh, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

She's from Birmingham (Bam-ba-Lam)
Way down in Alabam' (Bam-ba-Lam)
Well, she's shakin' that thing (Bam-ba-Lam)
Boy, she makes me sing (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty
BAM-BA-LAM

Is this a sort of 50s Little Richard-ish thing or a disco song?
