Did you ever go to the skating rink as a kid and do the HOKEY POKEY? Don't lie and don't be shy. Although I never did myself... -------------------------------------------------

Yes... I did the Hokey Pokey. I was actually a damned great skater until I broke my back. My favorite song to skate to was Black Betty by Ram Jam.

I will never forget where I would skate there was this older black fella who would always be skating backwards decked out in a hot pink vinyl one piece jumpsuit with an afro and a feather attatched to his earing. He used to come alone until after a while he found his soulmate. She was a shapely white gal who ended up wearing an outfit that matched his as well. They would skate together and do tricks. “A poor man waited a thousand years before the gate of paradise. And, while he snatched a little sleep, it opened and shut.”

WTF???
I lived weekends at the rollerskating rink, and i never heard of doing the HOKEY POKEY on skates... My fav part was the anxious feelings of finding the right girl to slow skate with...lol, i was WAY too cool 4 my time... definately a ladies man from the start. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

You know what? I'm heading out the door right now to take my kids skating! Thanks, pejman!
I'm sure I've lost my touch, and I won't attempt any jumps and twists because I'll more than likely injure myself... but, I'm sure I can still skate... you can't really forget a thing like that, can you? We'll see...

We'll see... Wish we still had one close by! The closest one I know of is about 45 minutes from me. Me and my kids would be there all the time if it was closer. Not only a good way to tire out the kids but great excercise, too! He calls me "Holi" cuz he says everyday w/ me is like a Holiday...

Not only a good way to tire out the kids but great excercise, too! WOW! Let me just say... that ROCKED! Here's the run-down... age ranges during the week in the afternoon were about 5-15 or so... Not too many young, young kids there. The very few adults that were there didn't seem to want to put on skates, as I was the only one above 15 with skates on! The first thing I wondered was, "Where in the HELL is the DJ?" There isn't one. Not during the week anyway. They have this juke-box that pulls songs, from pretty much any album as far as I could tell, off of the internet! (No file sharing... but it said internet something on it... and I am VERY sick of that song by Justin Timberlake... if it wasn't bad enough that the kids tortured me with it there, over and over and over, we heard it so much my kids are now singing it... ugh!)... So, anyway... because of this machine... I then made my kids sit on the bench and I went out to skate to BLACK BETTY! YAY! (I didn't do too bad... I did keep both feet firmly planted on the ground though). Anyway, on the weekends they have a DJ come in to select the music and take requests and do the "all boy", or "all girl" skate, etc.. It was fun! I suggest you all go out and go skate! My kids were HILARIOUS on skates! They've never been... what a riot! Luv4thepurple1: Oddly enough we have two nearby... the one I went to is only about ten minutes away... the other is a bit longer of a drive. Thanks again for the thread, pejman... without it I never would have even thought about going skating!

Thanks again for the thread, pejman... without it I never would have even thought about going skating! I'm almost tempted to go again this weekend... you know, just to go and report back to those who can't go. Not that I would WANT to skate or anything. Yeah... I remember that, too. I also remember when the girl (or boys, when it was there turn), had to line up against the wall and the boys (or girls) would have to skate by and choose someone to skate with! That's when the turned the lights off and had the disco ball on! Whooo! If you were good on your skates when you were younger, you shouldn't have a problem now... at first, I was like, "whoa"... but then after taking the kids out to hang on to their hands and skate them around I felt more comfortable... then, when I went out to skate by myself... it all came back. Skating forward... nearing a corner, turning around and skating backwards around it quickly so you can flip back around and go forward again... wind blowing through your hair! Good times! LOL... seriously, I loved it!
