The 'Prince: Music & More' forum intimidates me

I joined the org as a fan wanting to learn more.

I started off lurking (and occasionally posting) in the Prince: Music & More forum.

But over time, I grew intimidated.

I mean - I'm a big fan, I own every album, and quite a few singles; but the level of encyclopaedic knowledge that a lot of posters has just scares me.

I thought I was a big fan - until I joined this place. So now I've gone back to mostly lurking over there and posting here instead.

Tell me I'm not alone?

You are not alone, I am here with you. Though we're far away. I am here to stay. Sorry. I couldn't help it. I lurked for about a year before I started posting anything. Supernova, Anji, NuPwrSoul all scare the hell out of me but I really dig what they post. Please don't be afraid. They all are great people over there.

Oh no, they are great people, and i really dig what they post (particularly Anji & Moonbeam), and I love reading the forum, but my level of knowledge is a million miles away from theirs. I'm almost in awe, to be honest.

Hey don't sweat it... I certainly don't know everything about Prince and his music... there's loads of stuff I haven't heard etc. The Prince forum isn't all hardcore fans with all the facts at their fingertips... plenty of people just giving their opinions too, and plenty of newbies too smile Don't be scared!

It's all about opinions and discussion... don't be afraid to join in smile

exactly. I am amazed the way some people know every single guitar part, every single lyric, every scream, every alternat version (like the current thread over there comparing 6 different versions of Joy in Repetition - I mean, I didn't know there were 3, let alone 6!)

I know what U mean... I am Prince's biggest fan and you probably are 2. I don't think studying Prince like a science means anymore than feeling him like a flower feels the sun.

Sorry, CalhounSq, but I'll stick to my favorite forum, the other people than Prince forum. At least we all get along over there. I am glad you posted to this thread, though. It just reminds me of all the great things I have learned from the m&m forum(Calhoun Square is an awesome fucking song). I have gone back and listened to stuff I hadn't listened to in years with an open mind. Also, the people over there have different perspective on things and I have learned to be more openminded.

Sign me up too!!!

Although the knowledge in that forum sometimes seems a bit obsessive-compulsive to me, I like it. It makes my life easier as it clues me into which bootlegs I should devote more attention to and which can remain on the shelf. Also, till I came to this place, I thought I was the biggest Prince freak in the world. Now I know I ain't got nothing on many of the people here!
