LAKERS ARE DONE/NBA Playoffs Round 2

The impressive, 3-year championship run of the Los Angeles is

ALL BUT OVER.

No Fox - MAJOR loss.
No George - minor loss.
Most of all..

NO ANSWER FOR LEAGUE MVP TIM DUNCAN.

Robert Whore-
sorry, HORRY- can't guard Duncan, unless he takes a cheap shot at his balls, like he did to The Admiral (CLASSLESS move, indeed)

Yeah, let Shaq score 50 points,
let Kobe score 60..

it won't matter. It won't be enough.

The ONLY way the Lakers win this series is if the refs give it to them.

SACRAMENTO, meanwhile..
to say the WHIPPED Dallas last night would be an UNDERSTATEMENT.

The Kings are the

BEST PASSING TEAM

I have EVER seen.

They are SO GOOD, & SO FUN TO WATCH.
& SO DEEP on the bench.

This Championship is theirs to lose.
No doubt.

Rebuttal?

Concurrence?
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

There is doubt, because the last time I checked, the Kings had BLOWN that chance to be called champions by CHOKING on a 7th game at THEIR HOUSE last year!!!

Besides, as BAD as the Lakers played on Monday, they STILL could have won that game!! Once again, the Spurs tried to give it to them towards the end.

As far as the Kings being a "deep team", I can agree with you there. They are deep...in DEEP SHIT come the Conference Finals!!!

Lakers in 6 (over Spurs)...
Lakers in 6 (over Kings)...
Lakers in 4 (over the Eastern "J.V." team)

4 Time Champions!!!

Okay, luv4.. my "error" was a bit out of line..
but going for "the family jewels" like that..

that's TOO CLOSE for comfort
&
too close to home!

& YES, I understand how Laker fans will

CLING-

hope against hope-

to the dream that the Lakers will get that fourth ring..

IN REALITY, however..

it's just
not
going

to happen.

Yes, the Lakers will valiantly put up an admirable fight..
they might actually go the full 7 games with the Spurs..

but barring a SERIOUS injury to the NBA MVP,

the Lakers will be sent on their 1st "May vacation" in 4 years..
again, a well-deserved vacation, after that IMPRESSIVE threepeat championship run! Please, don't anybody think that I "hate" the Lakers.. BECAUSE I DON'T. Shaq is STILL UNSTOPPABLE. Kobe is THE most athletic, multidemensional player in the league..

the TRUTH REMAINS, however, that there are now 2 teams-
in the same conference as the Lakers & with better records-
that can "dethrone" the champs.

If the Spurs SOMEHOW don't do it-
& really, I FULLY EXPECT THEM TO-
then the Kings will.
I'll see you tonight..

mltijchr, they have some great sales going on at travelocity from u're place to L.A.

See you in oh, about two weeks?

Never underestimate the hearts of champions.

It was one game. Now, if they lose tonight, you can start making predictions.

The only time Shaq has lost playoff series is when they are swept. Happened when he was with the Magic and happened with him as a Laker.

What is funny is most of us have been laker lovers even when they were not champs, so it is not a bandwagon thang.

And if it is over, key word "if", then congrats on three straight and be prepared to go back there again next year.

How come everyone brings out the shovels every time the Lakers lose a playoff game? It is well-known that the Lakers lack depth. This is because 1) their owner is cheap, and 2) certain teams in the Western Conference have hoarded free-agent players for no other purpose than to keep them from signing with L.A. The Lakers are an older team as well, this is true. Shaq seriously hurt the team by not having surgery until September, when he could have had it in July. They also suffer from a bit of complacency.

That being said , , ,

1. They have the best 1-2 punch in the league.

2. They have the winningest coach in the league.

3. They have won 13 straight playoff series.

4. They have won all of their do-or-die games in the playoffs during their run (game 5 v. Sac 2000, Game 7 v. Portland in 2001, Game 7 v. Sac in 2002).

5. They have veterans in Horry, Shaw and D-Fish.

6. They are not intimidated by anyone.

7. In Game 1, they only had 12 freethrows, they shot 37%, they lost their starting SF, their C fouls out, and they still only lost by 5 points.

Not to say that Lakers doomsayers are completely wrong, just premature.

Oh yeah, Shaq & Kobe. Or should it be... Kobe & Shaq???Last time I checked, basketball is played with FIVE players on the court.. NOT TWO. No problem.. the Sacramento "TEN DEEP" Kings will have something for this "1-2 punch"..

2. They have the winningest coach in the league.
Oh yeah, the same guy who had the "dumb luck" to become the coach of the 1 NBA player who, while great, has gotten more calls in his favor than any other player in the historty of professional sports..
Oh yeah.. the same coach who always whines- I'm sorry, "points out"- how bad the officiating was, to get the (now much needed) "make-up calls" for the next game.. yeah, the same brilliant coach who likes to wander alone through the state of Montana, sit in the "lotus position" & smoke a "peace pipe"..

3. They have won 13 straight playoff series.
Yes? & the point here is?

4. They have won all of their do-or-die games in the playoffs during their run (game 5 v. Sac 2000, Game 7 v. Portland in 2001, Game 7 v. Sac in 2002).
okay, there's a TREND here.. so let's have a

SIDEBAR: Items 3 & 4 in this "that being said" list are what we call..
ANCIENT HISTORY
& thus have ABSOLUTELY NO IMPACT on the current series.
If anyone bothered to look they could easily find some "trends" that bode for an "early exit" for the Lakers in this series

5. They have veterans in Horry, Shaw and D-Fish.
Oh yeah.. the "crotch smacker who can also heave up a lucky 3-pointer when his team desperatly needs it", the "old man who can't play 40 minutes a night" - according to his coach, no less, & the "little fish who, maybe, could.. but will probably wear himself out chasing after Tony Parker"..

6. They are not intimidated by anyone.
Oh yeah.. Shaq is kind of intimidating.. especially when he's rapping & appearing in movies & tv shows.. & who, by the way, do the Lakers intimidate now?

7. In Game 1, they only had 12 freethrows, they shot 37%, they lost their starting SF, their C fouls out, and they still only lost by 5 points.
Oh yeah.. when the series shifts to LA, the Lakers will go to the line THREE TIMES MORE than the Spurs will, the Spurs will shoot 35% & lose both LA games by at least 20 points. Lucky for me, there'll be some paint I can watch dry, instead of watching games 3 & 4..

Not to say that Lakers doomsayers are completely wrong, just premature.
This is not "premature speculation".. calling the Lakers done as champs is as easy breathing.

highfive

Good points. Having been I have been a Laker fan since 1984, at the moment McHale cheap-shotted Rambis. I've seen them win titles and blow playoff series. I waited 12 years for them to win a title after Showtime closed and I have been more than happy with the results over the last 3 years.

That being said, who's to say they can't do it again? There are deeper teams out there, but they can only roll out 5 at a time. They'll leave it all on the floor during this series and hopefully the next 2. Regardless of the outcome, they'll end the year guns blazin'

johnwoo

If they fall short this year, they will retool, and they will be right back in there. Anti-Laker types better hope they lose this year. If they don't, then there may be no stopping them in the foreseeable future.

Again, the same type of garbage we Laker fans have been hearing ever since we won that first title back in 2000!!

I remember hearing some of the same "points" last year in the Sacramento series...coming back from a 3-2 defecit and winning a game 7 at THEIR house!!!

And, once again, the voices are loudest ONLY when they are down in a series. The same people were talking about that very thing last series against the Wolves (Hell, even lil'
man was barking on the NPGMC), and look what happened to them. smile

I can tell you this much...there is no was the Lake Show loses to the "heartless" Spurs in this series. Duncan may be the MVP of the league, but he's soft as a grape!!

Lakers in 6!!!

1999-2000 season: the media and fans proclaim the Potland Trailblazers the deeper more talented team (which was true - on paper). Result: the Potland (not a typo) Trailblazers can't hold a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter of the WCF and lose the series.

2000-2001 season: the media and fans slobber and stutter over how San Antonio's regular season record is better than the Lakers, and how much more talented they are than the Lakers (which was true again - on paper). Result: San Antonio is swept in the post season by the Lakers who only lose 1 game in the playoffs.

2001-2002 season: the media, fans, and Kings players slobber and stutter about how much better and deeper they are than the Lakers (true again on paper). Result: the Kings had million dollar bodies and 10ยข heads (sans Bibby). They couldn't handle the pressure of a long series and lost.

2002-2003 season: after a horrible start, fans and media proclaim the Lakers dead, and wonder out loud whether they'll even be a .500 team. Later on they upgrade them wondering out loud whether this team will make the playoffs by accruing the 8th and final seed in their division. As Kobe Bryant goes on a tear the likes that have not been seen since Wilt Chamberlain's heyday, as Shaq is still not fully in basketball shape while playing below Shaq-like standards, the Lakers become a 5th seed. Result: the Lakers have the second best record in the western conference after New Years day.

Fast forward to the Minnesota/Laker series: the Lakers win game 1 decisively.

:::crickets chirping:::

Game 2: Minnesota beats the Lakers decisively in the next 2 games. "It's Over" EVERYONE rejoices.

The Lakers win game 4.

:::crickets chirping:::

The Lakers win game 5.

:::crickets chirping:::

The Lakers win game 6.

:::crickets chirping:::

Fast forward to the Spurs/Laker series: the Lakers lose game 1, while shooting terribly, and losing by 5 points. "The Lakers Are Dead!!" many proclaim...to be continued...

I'm telling you right here;

IF the Lakers somehow manage to win a title this year it will reveal just as much about the NBA as it does about the Lakers. This year the team is thinner than the previous 3 years, and if some other team can't knock them off this time then that reflects badly on this year's crop of playoff teams. NOW is their time to dethrone this team if they're going to do it at all. Injuries to key players have started to catch up to them, and this is the window of opportunity to dethrone them. With the way they started out and have a tendency to coast, I'm surprised the Lakers even won 50 games this season.

Constantly whining and moaning about the refs is a sad LOSER'S LAMENT. There has NEVER been a season that I've watched the NBA that there weren't bad calls on both sides - in many playoff series. This is NOT new by any means. And the longer the series, the more likely there will be more bad calls. What's new is the fact there is some silly conspiracy theory spoken about by fans who don't like the Lakers to begin with.

Oh yeah.. the "crotch smacker who can also heave up a lucky 3-pointer when his team desperatly needs it", the "old man who can't play 40 minutes a night" - according to his coach, no less,

lol!!! That is hilarious. Anybody who says Robert Horry's 3 point daggers are "lucky" doesn't know their Robert Horry history and just sounds like an NBA novice. disbelief

Ask San Antonio, whose hearts he ripped out while he was a Rocket in 1995 in the playoffs.

Ask the New York Knicks about the 1994 Finals against Houston Rocket Horry.

Ask Shaq about the 1995 Finals when the Rockets swept the young Shaq's Orlando Magic team.

Ask the Potland Trailblazers about the dagger that sent them home in the playoffs last season.

Ask the Sixers about Horry's game 3 dagger while the Finals were tied at 1 game a piece in 2001...

If Horry, at 1 year older than Shaq, is "old" it's because of the wear and tear of consistently getting deep into the post season with Houston and LA. Not because he's 32, for cryin' out loud. No, he doesn't have starter's stamina, but he's a role player who doesn't always start. Always has been as a Laker. I guess all those championship rings are wearing Big Shot Rob down. Brush up on your Horry history.
