Actor June Lockhart, who played moms in'Lassie' and 'Lost in Space,' dies at 100
June Lockhart was a renowned actress, best known for her iconic roles in Lassie and Lost in Space, who passed away at the age of 100 on October 23, 2025. Her daughter, Anne Lockhart, is also an actress, famous for her role as Lieutenant Sheba in the original Battlestar Galactica series. June Lockhart was the mother of Anne Lockhart, and both were from a family of actors, with Anne’s father being June's ex-husband, John Maloney
Lockhart died of natural causes Oct. 23 at her home in Santa Monica, California, with daughter June Elizabeth and granddaughter Christianna by her side, according to a statement sent to USA TODAY by her representative, Harlan Boll.
Lockhart became one of the most familiar faces on American television in the 1950s, '60s and '70s. She was known for her gentle voice and unflappable warmth as the devoted mother on "Lassie" and later she embraced the future as the matriarch of the Robinson family in "Lost in Space." She also played Dr. Janet Craig on "Petticoat Junction." |
