Can they make a good fantastic four ? Just curious what you guys think ... I grew up with Fantastic four comics ... later i got into others .... including spiderman, xmen iron man etc ... but I always had a thing for fantastic four .
Years later of course when they made that first movie i had my doubts they could ever bring together the themes of family and coming together even with differences - like it seems they are trying to do with this new one coming out soon ... just curious ...
I admit i was so exited about xmen ... and then they didnt seem to be as big .
the Avengers kinda took over but I never got realy got into them- they were good but eh

There are basically two types of MCU movies. There are the ones that are entertaining and there are the ones that are shit. I think Fantastic Four will fall into the "entertaining" category. It will be be better than the old movies with Jessica Alba and therefore, will be the best Fantastic Four movie by default. I'm not really expecting it to be "good" but like I said, it should at least be entertaining.

I have a reputation among my friends and family that I'm really into superhero movies and that kind of thing. I don't think it's deserved though I really like the first two Superman movies with Christopher Reeve. I liked the two Tim Burton Batman movies as well. That's pretty much it as far as the DC side of things go. As for Marvel, I guess it's a little more complicated. I really like the first two Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire and the first two X-Men movies. But the MCU is kind of weird. I haven't seen them all but of the ones I've seen, I don't think I could say any of them are terrible. But I don't think any of them were really good either. They're all kind of meh. Some of them were great to watch for the first time but don't really hold up on repeated viewings. So I guess Fantastic Four will be just another MCU movie that's fun, but nothing more.

Disney did the closest with The Incredibles. This was accomplished by focusing on family dynamics, setting the era in the past, creating a backstory that was surprisingly rich for it's short service, and not focusing too hard on "representation", rather, allowing all to shine in their own way and working toward a common goal -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I think they could do a good job but this cast is worse than the original one for me (unless Pedro Pascal shines). As far as my tastes in superhero movies I'm easy to please because I don't expect much. Just entertain me.
For Superman give me Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman every time. I liked both the Keaton and Bale Batmen (not so much the others). Aquaman was alright once I adapted to the visual of Mamoa playing him. I never liked Toby Maguire as Spiderman/Peter Parker. He was too geeky for my taste. The newer guy, Tom Holland is better in my opinion.
The Avengers and X-men movies are pretty much the gold standards with near perfect casting. Mind you I'm decades removed from reading the comic books so I might be a lot more tolerant than the diehards. Nevertheless, I've enjoyed most of the movies- my favorites being Wolverine and Iron Man.

The only exception being the Flame Guy actors. Chris Evans is probably a better actor than the new guy. But even then, he was by far the most annoying thing about that old movie for me.

Just judging from the trailers a lot of the focus seems to be about the family dynamic. Plus, it's set in the 1960s. Can't really say anything about the backstory though. I'd guess The Incredibles has it beat there. But I don't see much of a focus on "representation", as you put it, either.

I am not a huge marvel fan but I do check them out (usually)
This one just interests me because they have tried so many times and I think they obviously want this thing to work ... it is just tough with the 1950s and jack kirby references and such - I wonder if it will fly in 2025 etc . I hope it does of course because I was a big fan back in the day of the .10 cent comics ! oops maybe 0.25cents

So the word is that they have done extensive reshoots, and almost completely rewritten and shot the final act. Also, that many people turned down the character of Reed because it did not do a service to their career, which hints to a focus on Sue Richards as the core of the team, with Johnny as the comic relief, Ben as the comedy heart, and Reed as the out of touch science nerd. The Incredibles handled this amazingly. I think having "Invisible Girl's as a teen daughter was pitch perfect, and switching Torch to Flash was smart as well. It allowed everyone to deal with their troubles while having these powers, and it absolutely created a verisimilitude which is missing from a lot of comic movies. The first FF movie was a fun popcorn comic movie for it's time. I liked Rise of the Silver Surfer myself, but I understand that not every one found it to their taste. I think they have a good cast for this new movie, so I hope they get it together. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Chris Evans is the primary reason I rate the old cast higher- mind you I haven't even seen the new movie yet [Edited 6/30/25 14:47pm]

He looks the part anyway. But Pedro Pascal is a good actor so I'm sure he'll do a good job. I don't even know who the guy is who's playing The Thing in the new movie. But the Sue Storm actress has got to be better than Jessica Alba. And I'm not sure if he's going to appear in the movie, but Robert Downey Jr is a major improvement on the old Dr Doom.

I liked the old Dr. Doom but yes, Robert Downey Jr. would still be an improvement. As for Sue Storm I suppose it will help to have a lesser known actress so there's no baggage of whatever I may or may not think about Jessica Alba. I've liked this actress in other things I've seen with her so I'm optimistic.

And I'm far less impressed by that than most people who would have seen that movie

Sometimes these spoilers are bullshit and sometimes they're right on the money. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'd be surprised if Dr Doom* didn't show up though. * Just a little funny aside. I was talking about this movie with one of the security guys in the office where I work and he's really into comic books and superhero movies and that whole thing. We had this really long conversation about the Fantastic Four and throughout the whole thing I kept referring to Dr Doom as Mr Doom. Mister fucking Doom. As if he'd been struck off or something

Yeah. Jessica Alba's looks didn't and don't do anything for me. Nor does her acting. Most of these roles aren't exactly Shakespeare though so I think she was able to do just well enough to not mess it up.
