Street Gangs in Movies In the 1960s and 1970s there were a few wonderful films about New York City street gangs that included The Cool World, The Warriors and The Education of Sonny Carson. This article looks back on those films: https://crimereads.com/st...gangs-nyc/

The bot has reminded me of where I heard of The Warriors before. I know it's a movie (though I've never seen it) but I remember my dad having a Warriors game on his PlayStation 2 back in the day. I don't think I ever actually seen him play it. It wasn't exactly the kind of game I enjoyed myself. But thinking about it now, it's kind of a weird game to release. A videogame adaptation of a movie from the 70s. You don't get many of those these days.

It's a classic, check it out I will. It's on the list. I've been meaning to check out more movies from this era. For some reason my movie experience kind of skips the 70s. I'm a big fan of the classic Laurel & Hardy movies from way back and then I got really into the Hitchcock movies and those types of things from the 40s to the 60s. Then I was obsessed with 80s movies like Back To The Future, all the John Hughes movies and then later on some of the action movies, Lethal Weapon and Indiana Jones specifically. But I kind of skipped the 70s with the exception of Star Wars and Superman. So I definitely do plan to go back and check out more 70s stuff and The Warriors will be on that list. I'm guessing it's not something I can watch with my son though so I'll have to find a time when he's busy on the Xbox or something and I have a moment to myself

Well I was 9 years old when I watched the Warriors and I loved it. All the kids liked the Warriors. Well I could give you a list of 70's movies I recommend for you to watch if you like.

The Warriors is the only one of those listed that I've seen. I saw it in a movie theater--can't remember the year. I'll have to check out the other two. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

If it's not too much trouble, that would be great. Thanks. I'm open to pretty much any genre but I tend to avoid horror movies if I can. I'm not as bad as I used to be with them but anything like The Shining is off limits. Fuck that movie

[Edited 1/24/25 17:44pm] Well fuck me, I wasn't expecting such a comprehensive list . That's great though. The only ones I've seen on that list are Grease, The Godfather movies and Blazing Saddles. So you couldn't have done a better job with those recommendations LOL. I might give one or two of the horror movies a go too. If I can find someone to watch them with me. I've always been curious about the Alien movies and I've seen bits of one of them. The second one, I believe.

Ok you need to see Alien, it set the standard. I would also watch Aliens (1986). Make sure you see the directors cut with all the extra footage included. Just watch Alien and Aliens. Same with Halloween 1978, it set the standard. I would also watch Halloween 2 1981 and don't watch any sequels or rebboots. I think you will like all the non horror movies I suggested

I think you will like all the non horror movies I suggested I saw the beginning of Aliens, I think. But it's honestly very hazy. It was a while ago. All I really remember is a bunch of soldiers sitting around and Sigourney Weaver being angry with that guy from the Terminator (I can never remember his name). The guy with white blood. He's a robot, I think. I'm not completely clueless about the whole Alien world but most of what I know about it I've learned from online discussions about the videogames. So it's probably time I watched the movies. Or at least the first two anyway. The rest were pretty bad, right? There is a scene in Jaws I've seen literally dozens of times although I've never seen the whole movie. When I was a kid, my dad had a thing on his PC. I can't remember what it was called but it was basically like an early version of Wikipedia. And you could look up loads of things on it but I used to spend hours reading about movies and music on it. And for some movies they had little film clips. And the clip for Jaws was the part where the guy is throwing stuff into the sea and the shark comes up and scares him. He goes back inside and tells the other guy "we're going to need a bigger boat". I wish I knew what that program was called. I'd like to say it was something like Encarta or something. But I might be mixing that up with something else. [Edited 1/25/25 13:51pm] Edit 2 - Actually, I think it was Encarta. I'm almost positive it was. [Edited 1/25/25 13:56pm]

Well you need to see Alien first then Aliens so it will make more sense. Alien ressurection (the 4th and final Alien movie with Sigourney Weaver) was not that bad, I liked it. Unfortunatly you will need to see Alien 3 to know what happened. God I hate Alien 3. The newer films without Sigourney Weaver are horrible is just a waiste of time. However the newest movie Alien Romulus was not bad, watch it after watch the Sigourney Weaver Alien movies first. Once again make sure you watch the director cuts for Alien and Aliens, more scenes in them. I suggest watching all the horror movies first before seein the Exorcist first. If and when you watch the Exorcist I suggest you watch it in the daytime, with lots of friends with you.

I can check it myself later so don't worry if you're not sure. Also, what about Prometheus? That's like a prequel or something right? Is that worth watching? I can tell you right now that I won't be watching the Exorcist . I've seen images from the movie in magazines and online over the years and that was enough for me to know I couldn't watch it. A couple of years ago my cousin fooled me into watching The Shining. "It's not that scary. There's nothing in it". She's a fucking liar. I had to sleep with the lights on for two weeks after that. And the sequel was even worse. Don't get me wrong, both amazing films. But I can't deal with that supernatural stuff. I'm not too bad with the more grounded, serial killer things. I don't like them but I feel I can handle it. But ghosts, vampires, religious stuff etc? No can do, I'm afraid.

I'm not sure about Disney with the director cuts, I have the Blu Rays and they have the directors cut. Don't waiste your time with Prometheus and the others (except Alien Romulus). If you watch Prometheus you'll probably be like hey I didn't hate it nor did I like it. Really just a waiste of time, Would be better to watch the movies I recommended.

Looks like I'm going to get started on this list sooner than I thought. Tested positive for covid yesterday and even though I didn't feel too bad last night, I woke up this morning feeling like absolute crap. So no work for me this week. Every cloud has a silver lining, right? And it also means I have a bit more free time than usual. My hands are aching so bad that I can't even play any games but I do get to watch a few movies. I haven't started on this list yet. Today was really just me trying to make myself feel better so I watched one of my favourite movies (Somewhere In Time) as a kind of comfort food for the eyes. Tomorrow, I'm watching Alien. But for now, I sleep.

Grimace is a purple, fuzzy, and friendly character from McDonald's. He was first introduced in 1971 as the "Evil Grimace" and was a villain who stole milkshakes. He was later reintroduced in 1972 as a lovable character who is best friends with Ronald McDonald

As a child of the 70s, the Warriors was a landmark movie. Watched it recently and it's a little weird but the key lines quoted regularly really stand out. Not too many other gang movies really stand out to me.

Yeah it was more like a comic book feel to it, which is why kids liked it.
