I'm not sure what to expect from this. It's the same guy who did the Guardians Of The Galaxy so it could be a disaster. The trailer looks decent though. Not sure about that Lex Luthor though.

I'm a huge fan of the first two Christopher Reeve movies and I even enjoyed the third movie in a funny kind of way. I barely remember the 4th movie but I know I hated it. I did really like the one with Kevin Spacey too. The guy who plays Superman in that was really good. I didn't really like the Cavill movies. They were kind of dour and boring. This new movie looks like it might fall somewhere in between all of those. If I like it as much as Superman 3 then I'll be happy enough with that. I don't think it will rank up there with the first two though.

I agree with all your takes. Loved Superman Returns. I know Guy Gardner is in this movie, probably there for comic relief.

To me, this new iteration looks a bit hokey with that CGI dog.
I actually liked the Cavill-acted version the best.
I guess Gunn had to change it up and make it brighter and friendlier for the masses.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Superman Returns. It hit sll the right notes for myself and my son when we went to see it in a movie theater in 2006. As a huge fan of the Christopher Reeve movies (especially the first two as Shelly pointed out) I think it did a great job paying tribute to those movies. I might go see the new one--depending on what the reponse is after it comes out. lol

I showed the trailer to my son and the first thing he said was that it looks like "those really old Spider-Man movies". Can't help but feel slightly triggered by that "really old" part but I actually think he's got a point. Those Spider-Man movies felt like real comic book movies. They weren't trying to be heavy dramas but they also weren't embarrassed to be comic book movies like a lot of recent Marvel movies. I do kind of get a similar vibe from Superman. Now, whether my son was thinking about it that deeply is up for debate. He was probably just talking about how colourful it was lol

I like the dog. My bf is a massive Superman nerd and he actually had a dog called Krypto when he was a kid. So it's kind of nice for him too.

I feel kind of bad for Cavill. He looked like he could have been a really good Superman but he never really got a good movie. I just don't know why they tried to make it so dark and devoid of fun. He didn't even have the red trunks. Or the crystal fortress thing. Or a Lex Luthor.

He's a Green Lantern right? I just noticed that the guy from Firefly is playing him. I didn't even see him at first. That's kind of cool. I'm not sure how I feel about there being so many superheroes in it. I'd kind of prefer if it was Superman by himself.

I'm really curious about who the villain is going to be. Obviously we get a look at Lex Luthor and some sort of Kaiju beast thing but I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. Even though I am a bit apprehensive over the whole thing. I want it to be good though.

James Gunn seems to like using little-known characters in his movies. I wonder if this is some sort of elaborate set up for the next Justice League movie. Like, these smaller characters get killed off to sell the audience on how tough the villain is before Superman recruits Batman, Wonder Woman and co to kick his ass?

Doood, this place was the shiznit from 04 to 18, a generous time after his death. Even with that generosity, 110 out of 99 percentage of the world didn't give a fuck.

I saw the original 1978 film at the Loma in San Diego. Humongous screen and, to this day, the Richard Donner-directed, Reeve-acted, Williams-scored film is the gold standard.

I'm not upset, but I love Jame Gunn and was sitting in a theater, literally crying during Guardians of the Galaxy 3. For me, I put my trust in Jame Gunn, and I refuse to judge an entire film on a two minute trailer. And I just don't understand why other people are doing this. Yes, I get it, for whatever reason, people feel the need to gatekeep a universe that is done. The Snyderverse, Cavill-Superman era is over. These folks need to get a grip and move on.

Until I walk out of the theater in July, I will not judge.

This is kind of where I am with it. I'll judge it after I've seen it. I didn't like the Guardians movies and I was instantly turned off by the trailer of that Suicide Squad movie he did but if this new Superman movie was directed by anyone else, I'd be pretty excited based on the trailer for it. So just because the director has made some movies in the past that I didn't like shouldn't even be a factor in how I view this one. Very few filmmakers have a 100% record anyway so like I said, I'll judge it when I see it.

Might still be shit. But for now, I'm looking forward to it.

The org may not be as populated as it was when Prince was alive or before there were other options out there but to be honest, it's the smaller community here that appealed to me in the first place. There's probably only about 15-20 regular active users on here (give or take, I haven't counted) but I'd rather spend my limited free time chatting to 15-20 cool people than hundreds of arseholes. The org is what we make it. No point in lamenting the past when we can be discussing stuff in the here and now. Books, movies, music, games, TV shows etc. New Prince releases, if we ever get more of those lol

Basically, the org isn't dead. It's alive (and it lives in Minneapolis). Or somewhere a bit warmer, preferably lol

I love this perspective in 2025. It's a fact that a lot of music and art I've discovered (over decades) has been from the Org and the knowledge of the people who come here. Why stop now?
