Same with gerbils. FYI Weird. Why are ferrets and gerbils illegal? We had gerbils in my classroom in elementary school. And my brother had a ferret. They are actually nice pets. its a richard gere amber alert thing i think . [This message was edited Thu May 1 19:57:21 PDT 2003 by shausler]

YAY! I love to hear happy endings You were very kind to give him a ride to the pet store yay, happy weasel!

From what I understand, it's because gerbils are intelligent & hardy enough that if they escape, they can easily take over farmland. They also multiply like nuts, which is a danger. Ferrets can turn feral if they escape, making them a danger to wildlife. "State Fish and Game officials have long objected to encouraging ferret populations in the state for fear of new gangs of ferrets in the wild that would eat eggs of endangered birds and the like" (from http://www.modbee.com/opi...206c.html) People have been arguing over the legalization of gerbils and ferrets for years. These are just the reasons that are listed for keeping then illegal - I mean, like, where is the sun?
