R.I.P. Bob Newhart

Bob Newhart, legendary comedian and sitcom star, dead at 94

Comedian and sitcom legend Bob Newhart has died at age 94, Fox News Digital can confirm.

Newhart passed away from natural causes following a series of short illnesses on Thursday morning at his home in Los Angeles, according to his publicist, Jerry Digney. The comedian was surrounded by his family.

The actor was known for his hit sitcom, "The Bob Newhart Show," in the '70s. Newhart went on to have two additional shows named after him, "Newhart" and "Bob."

Bob Newhart’s groundbreaking work in stand-up and television – and his beloved deadpan delivery – have left an indelible mark on the art form of comedy and will be treasured by comedy fans for generations to come. We are proud to celebrate and preserve his extraordinary work at National Comedy Center," Journey Gunderson, National Comedy Center executive director, shared in a statement with Fox News Digital.

Great comedian who lived a long and full life. Rest in peace.

So, just a unique footnote on Newhart, his show about owning an inn in Vermont.

In the opening shots of the show, you see a brown car driving along the roads, turning through a town, all presumably to get to the inn.

Those shots were actually done during the filming of On Golden Pond. The opening of that movie was to show Norman and Ethel (Henry Fonda as passenger, and Katharine Hepburn driving) traveling to the cabin. They were cut from the film.

In one shot in Newhart, they make a left turn and you can see an old man (a double probably) in the passenger seat with the same hat and sweater that Norman wears at the beginning of On Golden Pond.

On Golden Pond shows them just pulling into the drive of the cabin. But those traveling shots were pulled and used for Newhart's opening shots.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

R.I.P.

Dude was always funny whenever/wherever he appeared. And Ellen DeGeneras clearly stole his schtick.
