I just registered to run my first marathon... Well I just booked my summer.
I started running in October because I had gained a little weight after quitting smoking in August. I found that I really loved hitting the road each day. I was forced to stop for a while in Jaunary because I suffered an injury but as soon as I healed I headed straight for the roads and track again. Well I have made the decision to run the Twin Cities Marathon on October 6, 2003 and I am very excited. Today was the first day you could register and I am confirmed as one of the 8,800 that will run in the race (it always fills very fast). The Twin Cities Marathon is considered the most beautiful urban marathon in the country. www.twincitiesmarathon.org As far as training goes I am establishing a base so right now I am running about 20-25 miles a week. I try to run around 6 to 7 minute miles. I am also lifting weights and have trimmed my body down to around 145 lbs which is a very good running weight for my height which is just under 5'10" I found this training schedule online so this is what my summer is giong to look like. I plan on following the "basic marathoner" schedule. http://www.nyrrc.org/nyrr...dules.html So has anyone on the org ever ran a marathon? If so do you have any tips?

I do rock out while I am training, but it seems that headphones are not allowed during the actual running of the marathon; which sucks. But oh well...The streets are lined with people cheering and bands that play as you run by so that has to offer some inspiration.

Hey!!
Good Luck! R U trying to win? That would be so cool... Do us a favor...TRY TO WIN THE DAMN THING. Where U place will depend on the number of Kenyans entered. Important info.. No music REALLY sucks...how can they justify that rule?...I'm sure plenty of runners train to music. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Good 4 U SexMachine!!!
Im very tempted 2 enter the London Marathon 4 next year, cuz Im pretty sure I can do it. The training would be fucking rough of course but I got that covered, determination and motivation are my obstacles really. Dont injuries just suck ass!!!?? Train hard dude! Ex-Moderator | You'll be running right by my park! I think. I think I was mad last year cause my bus stop was closed cause of the marathon... I'll have to lean out my window and wave or something.
In any case, good luck. |

Very impressive,Congrats! How many miles do you have to run? I know most are like 20+ miles. So that is very good if you can stay on your feet for that distance. The best i could do might be ten.

my first marathon was the 1996 atlanta marathon. it is a very cool feeling of accomplishment. i really didn't train properly, i just ran a lot in preparation, and wouldn't suggest that you follow that lead, do some kind of proper training.
i had run several 1/2 marathons prior to running the full marathon, and never felt very taxed by the 1/2, so i went in a little over confident. at about 20 miles, i hit the wall like a ton of bricks. i finished but my last 6 miles were painful with a capital p. good luck ------------------------------------------------

Winning I'm hoping to finish Perhaps someday I would like to qualify for the Boston Marathon, but 3:10 doesn't seem likely this year. I noticed that when you are 80 you only have to finish in 5:00

A marathon is 26.2 miles. If you can do 10 without training I am sure that you could run a marathon if you put your mind to it.

That's a great route. Maybe I'll have to pay attention this year. And yeah, you'll run right past me. So after a mile and a half look up and wave. I can give you the goods on short-cut through the park too. |
