Wait, so Ireland/Australia, or wherever Shelly is from, doesn't have egg nog? Heathens! It can't just be an American thing, can it? I've seen it in the shop once or twice but I've never bought it. That's here in Ireland. For what it's worth I don't ever remember seeing it anywhere back home in Australia. That's not to say we don't have it there, I've just never seen it. I think it's mainly just an American tradition.
Wikipedia says it was actually created in Europe.
It also says sales get worse every year since the 60s when it was it most popular. It's "American" maybe but I wouldn't say the greater majority of Americans like it. It's always been a polarizing drink since I was a kid anyway.
Actually, it's the Prince of beverages really. Pick a random American on the street and they're probably not gonna be fans of the Nog, but the ones who do Nog rep it harder than fans of more popular drinks rep their favs. [Edited 1/18/24 11:58am] A lot of American things originated in Europe. Like most of the population, for example |
