Honestly, I only watch those movies at Christmas. But I suppose one could watch them at any time of the year.
For me they are action movies. But we all have our views on that [Edited 12/31/23 17:09pm] |

I guess I kind of fall on the side of the fence that says if it's set at Christmas time, I consider it a Christmas movie regardless of the genre. Actually, now that I think about it, I've heard it debated whether or not Batman Returns is a Christmas movie. So who better to ask than the (Bat)man himself? Do you see it as a Christmas movie? |

I might check it out. But it feels a bit sad to be watching Christmas movies after Christmas I always see people talking about eggnog in American shows and movies. I never even knew what it was. But I've been told that it's fucking disgusting so I'll probably steer clear of that.
Agree with this 100%, X-Mas 2024 will be here before you know it.
While it is a staple, it's also generational and some people I've shown this to could not get what the big deal was or why it was a Christmas tradition.

ha, agree on the Christmas movies after Christmas. I watched the Twilight Zone Xmas episode the other week and it was kinda weird.
Egg nog, however, is fantastic and the essence of Christmas to me. If Christmas was drinkable...
I only drink water and really disdain senseless sugar drinks--but egg nog is delightful.
The texture is the only thing that could be construed as disgusting. Otherwise, what, nutmeg, cinnamon, milk, eggs... how are these ingredients disgusting? Literally the fabric of desserts.
Egg nog's got a thick goopy texture undiluted, though. My mom always told me it's better to cut it with some milk, so I've always done that and it's never been an issue.

Are the eggs raw?
The eggs are tempered in the hot milk or cream, then added back to the pot. They're flavor and a thickener.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

A lot of websites advocate homebrew/homemade egg nog but that seems like it'd be a salmonella orgy.
I only buy local egg nog from local milk dairies and it's always pasteurized. It's like how eggs are in most desserts.
The flavor is wonderfully mild like the best holiday sweets. Like a nice slice of pumpkin pie or a plain sugar cookie. It's not overwhelming or aggressively bold or too sweet. The thick goopy texture is the only aspect people really take umbridge with. When I add milk I get it closer to the texture of milk. [Edited 1/14/24 12:42pm] |

CO-sign on the Holiday treats. It ain't autumn Holiday ramp up until pumpkin pie season hits, and it just ain't Christmas until that nice, cold glass of egg nog.
I drink it straight/pure, too. I just prefer it milked down. If it's any consolation with shrinkflation/watered-downflation every company penny-pinching you barely even have to milk it down anymore, the egg nog dairies milk it down pretty substantially themselves. As a kid that stuff weighed a metric ton and was like drinking maple syrup in terms of consistency, now it's like a microstep thicker than whole milk or cream.
I only need to add little droplets of 2% milk now. [Edited 1/14/24 19:45pm] |

Somehow I thought there wasn't egg in nog (got confused with egg creams I guess), so I checked the ingredients of my Hood brand stuff.
Totally separate from the actual ingredient list it says CONTAINS BIOENGINEERED FOOD INGREDIENTS. It does not specify which ingredients are laboratory concoctions, which means any or all could be. Jesus mother humping... |

And salmonella comes from the shell, the chicken poop or germs from that on the shell. You handle the shell, then it's on your hands, and you touch food, etc. It's not from the inner egg.
PLus, you're still tempering the egg with hot liquid, which will kill anything that got in the egg itself through handling. The pro tip: WASH YOUR HANDS after you crack those eggs and don't touch anything else until you do.
Honestly, I don't know how any of us survive just living life with all the fucking germs and this and that we encounter in our lives.

I'm hyped you actualy wash your hands after cracking the egg.
I'm OCD so I always hyper observe anyone cooking eggs. I swear I've seen maybe.. like... that happen once. Maybe twice. Most people just wipe their hands off on their "clean hands" nasty kitchen rag. Or a .2 second plain rinse under the sink where they splash all the germs all over the kitchen.
I actually wash my hands twice after I crack eggs. That egg goo, especially if when you crack it and it kinda gets under the nails, ugh.
I'd like a historical analysis on why this is the case. Personally, I blame the Rocky movies. Wasn't there like an egg crack challenge on the TikTok where people are just breaking eggs like it don't matter? Somehow eggs get left out of most people's raw food habits. |

Wikipedia says it was actually created in Europe.
It also says sales get worse every year since the 60s when it was it most popular. It's "American" maybe but I wouldn't say the greater majority of Americans like it. It's always been a polarizing drink since I was a kid anyway.
Actually, it's the Prince of beverages really. Pick a random American on the street and they're probably not gonna be fans of the Nog, but the ones who do Nog rep it harder than fans of more popular drinks rep their favs. [Edited 1/18/24 11:58am] |

Modern Egg Nog is the worst with those wacky ingredients. That's why I buy from local dairies. Most of the box variety like Southern Comfort is high fructose corn syrup drink with a splash 'o' nog.
Organic Valley good, though. |
