Thinking of starting my own website

I've never had my own website nor do I know anyone who has ever had their own
I found a few companies that charge you monthly for your own domain
"Namecheap" is one of them
Thing is I was on Facebook....and in a sense it kinda ate at me.The idiotic stuff I saw on there.Racist comments..childish drama, fake news (saying someone is dead just for attention when in reality the person is alive and well, saying stuff like "I want to see how many true friends I have, like and repost this on your wall if you are truly my friend"
One day Facebook will go out of business and I will be so happy

Anyhoo
Any of you have any experience with creating and having your own website? Is it difficult? Will I be able to post anything I want to?

Ideas for what would be on my website are the following

My own podcast to talk about anything that comes to mind
Videos from my PS4 gameplay
Prince music
Downloads for movies
Jokes
Dreams I've had
And I thought about doing a giveaway and give someone a free pizza

Any feedback and advice is welcome

I don't have any advice on setting up a website for you unfortunately but I wish you luck. I just wonder if it might be easier for you to start a YouTube channel rather than a website though. You could probably do most of that stuff on there and

there's more chance of reaching a wider audience for it. Depending on how much free time you have (work, family etc) you could do like a weekly/monthly podcast devoted to picking your favourite "top ten" things. One episode could be for movies, one could be Prince albums, one could be videogames. Every now and then you could get some friends or fellow Prince orgers on to give their own list and see how it matches up with yours.

Another series you could do would be gameplay from your favourite games. Or even trying games recommended to you by subscribers that you otherwise may never have thought about trying. Kind of like how other channels do those movie reactions. Only you could do it for games.

I'm sure there's loads of things you could do to set you apart from the typical YouTubers. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck

You have great ideas but like Facebook,I still get copyright violations of I post prince music. I want to be able to share his music without worrying about getting my account banned.
With my own website I don't think I would have to worry about that

Whether you are looking to profit from it or not I'm sure it's still a breach of copyright to make an artists music accessable from your website. Otherwise there'd be no need for the likes of Spotify and those kinds of things. So if that's what you have in mind, I don't think it would work.

I feel like you could do all the things you listed on a YouTube channel, including segments of Prince songs if you chop them up or pause during the song for commentary like YouTube reactors do to avoid auto copyright blocks. Straight DJ'ing your fav Prince songs is 100% copyright infringement though, if they still got DIY internet radio that would be the proper venue for that.

Another thought just occured to me
How do the users on YouTube who do the LIVE reactions to prince songs not get a copyright notice?
I mean you can practically hear the entire song

They pause frequently for commentary.

Just pause every 30 seconds so you can go:

"Whoah, guys, I gotta apologize. You know my household was more of an MJ house and like... I knew Prince from Dave Chapelle but... hahahaha. I figured Prince was like, you know. hahhahaa. Based on Dave Chapelle I figured Prince was just a joke."

Then pause and rewind on his unrefined Mick Jagger spazzy moves during "Little Red Corvette". "WHOAH and he can DANCE, too?!?!?"

There's so many template based sites for starting a web site, it's easier than it's ever been.

Playing copywritten music won't work on a web site but maybe you want to be a DJ?

I've NEVER understood why someone would want to watch someone else listening to a song. Its like the dumbest thing

Not really
I had a Facebook page not to long where I posted prince stuff
Most of the official stuck would get blocked but I was able to post unreleased stuff with no problems
I just want to be able to post and have other people enjoy and check out what I listen to
Not trying to profit or anything like that.Just want to share the music

This is so so accurate lol

Then when the reactors are all hype and bright-eyed,

"Guys, this was awesome, if you want me to react to more Prince send more suggestions in the comments."

And the comment section is like all the worst recommendations ever. I know everyone's got different taste or whatever, but these dudes are all like fresh off "When Doves Cry" or "Little Red Corvette":

"React to 'Dolpin', 'Courtin Time' and 'Diamonds & Pearls' next!" "React to 'Cream' and 'Pheremone' next!"

and then the barrage of Wikipedia types "Prince plays 35 instruments and has 40 albums and" blahblahblah, just overwhelming the n00bs. It's no coincidence most flame out after like 3 reactions. You follow up "When Doves Cry" with "Dolphin" whaddya expect?

I watch every Prince reaction. Well, not the "Purple Rain", most of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame or Superbowl reactions--which filters it down to like maybe 35 reactions total when you omit those.

The rationale is pretty simple. I've experienced certain Prince songs in the unquantifiable amounts of 100s, 1000s, etc.. I have pretty well defined opinions on my interests, and I spend 24/7 immersed in said perceptions, so to me there's nothing quite like getting a perspective outside my own. You've never wondered what it would be like to experience a piece of art you love for the first time again? Plus the generational divide. It's nice to confirm Prince has wide-sweeping generational appeal: gen-Z truly doesn't believe they dig Prince purely because they've never been exposed.

And most Prince reactions outside "Purple Rain"/R&R Hall of Fame/Superbowl honestly get like a 50-100 views, tops. They rarely crack half a grand. The super high 50 thousand view count reactors are from people who amass a following of subscribers who then watch every single reaction the reactor makes whether they're familiar with the original material or not. If you check out the comments to these reactors it's usually like over-the-top creepy obsessive, "We watch YOU because you are GENUINE and REAL" types. Desperate guys, "I just want to console you when you get emotional at a movie!" types. We're in the era of the personality cult. If people interpret you as "real" and "sincere" you got a potential billion audience of drones ready to worship.

The biggest racket in the realm of YouTube reactors is guys getting their girlfriends who haven't been exposed to a lot of media to react to stuff. "My Girlfriend Watches Batman for the First Time!" It's literally the gen-Z version of pimp daddy whoring out his chick. The next level pimp daddy's are realizing they get more views/engagement from desperate dudes if they don't actually appear in these videos with their girlfriends, just sit around pulling strings like the Wizard of Oz from behind the curtain.

I don't believe for a second that even 5% of those reaction videos are genuine either. There was one where this guy was listening to a song, supposedly for the first time, and halfway through this idiot starts singing along. He's never heard this song before but somehow knows the lyrics? Give me a break.

And you'll rarely, if ever, hear the YouTuber say they don't like the song. Why? They don't want to offend any fans of the artist they're reacting to so they're always overly positive about everything in a bid to get those likes and subscriber numbers up. So if they're not giving a genuine first time reaction to something nor are they giving their own genuine opinion on something then what's the point of even watching these guys in the first place?

LoL I've seen some of those comments. It's like they're copy and pasted from one video to another. The one about Eric Clapton calling Prince the greatest guitarist.ever is another popular one. Or when they say "Prince beat Mozart" as if they were in competition with each other lol

Eh maybe for a song like Linkin Park's "Numb" but if they're visibly under a certain age.., I mean, I think Europe just has a better appraisal of Prince which tempers your belief that all people on the internet must know his "hits"?

I've been out there in the fray, I've been an adolescent Prince fan a generation prior: Americans under the age of 40 have zzzeerrrro prior knowledge or experience with Prince's music. zero point zero. I can 1000% assure you of that. There were zero Prince fans my age graduating from high school in the 00s, no chance it's any better a full cycle of young adults later...

And I'll go off my own experience, binging all his records as a teen: 100% I had never experienced any of those songs before hitting the play button myself other than "When Doves Cry" and that "move ya big ass round this way so I can work on that zipper" line of "Gett Off" which was prominent in MTV VMA retrospectives of the 90s. Org'ers would call me a liar then, too.

He's basically one-hit-wonder in the states. Kids think of him like Rick Astley here.

As for singing along, if it's a hook you know the hook's coming back constantly. That seems to just be a result of gen-Z styles being more hook centric. Modern music is 95% hook. Focus more on the reaction to bridges, because modern music doesn't really do bridges anymore. Bridges/outros always get them. If they genuinely know the track they usually admit it at some point. 90% of them Linkin Park reactions admit at the end they knew the song just didn't know the title/band name.

There's a prominent "Purple Rain" reaction with high view count where the girl says it sucks in the thumbnail.

Again only speaking from Prince reactions, which all these discussions of "subscriber" and "numbers" are so beyond irrelevant for because they barely get like 50-80 views, pleennnty O reactors say the song sucks or is boring if it sucks or is boring. There's an Indian couple that get passionately disapproving of "I Hate U" for instance. "Too much hate. He seems like he is taking many influences from many great artists but not doing anything new with them," etc. etc. Homie roasted his entire concept of an artist in that one.

Like you got a great take right here if I'm applying to all music reactions out there. It just isn't applicable to Prince reactions.

the Mozart references are classic in Prince comments because no chance these superstans got any frame of reference of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart outside of maybe his Requiem in D minor, his own "Purple Rain". Did YOU know Prince played "Purple Rain" IN. THE. RAIN. at the Superbowl!?!? Please react to it!

YouTube comments are totally copy and paste.

Go YouTube like, try and make it songs from like 2003 and prior. Go search any hit 2003 and prior.

"We don't search for old songs. We search for the memories they carry." some variant. Top thumbs up of every goddamn video. "Wow! Well said!" btw I search for old tracks, half these I was getting beat down every weekend and stuck in a house with zero autonomy. People are flat out kooky in what they parrot. It gives me imagery like everyone was getting laid and having their jerseys retired by Polk High the day "Nookie" came out.

The entire internet's copy and paste now. Ever visit reddit? Every top voted comment is some madlibs variant of the same shit. "Username checks out."

Actually here's my concept idea for Am3121's YouTube channel:

Wikipedia's List of compositions by Mozart

https://en.wikipedia.org/...eus_Mozart

Line these bad boys up chronologically up in brackets with the entire Prince canon. The YouTube channel that seeks to solve the riddle that has captivated the internet, who really was the GOAT prodigy??:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart vs. Prince Rogers Nelson.
