Old people injuries... Welp, since I can't complain on my usual sites how about complaining here? Injured my left knee a month ago--apparent MCL injury on the same knee I fell on three years ago. That injury didn't take more than a month to heal--this one is up to the one month mark and is still stiff, swollen, and sore! Fed up with the damned thing! The irony is I didn't even fall on it this time but fell on my right shin with a huge abrasion and bruising but no other issues whatsoever. Apparently I twisted this in the fall. The day after the fall I put on the same compresion sleeve I wore after the last injury and I was going up and down stairs and walking around the block. BUT it is tight and I slept in it--on the third day I had a huge knot on the inside of my knee and could barely move it. Hobbled on a cane for two days and switched to a larger looser compression sleeve. Wore it for a month. But now it seems like I should have worn the tight one during the day and the looser one at night. Maybe it would be healed by now... Duh! I guess this is a stage 2 injury instead of stage 1 like three years ago on the same knee... Just want my old knee back the same way it was a month ago! Oh no! Sorry to hear that. These kinds of injuries can take up to three months to heal. You could try hydrotherapy. Life Matters

Have you been to a doctor with it? You should never ignore these kinds of things in the hope they'll go away. My cousin hurt her lower back years ago. She went to a physio and they put it down to a muscle strain due to her rigorous rehearsals for some shitty musical she was doing at the time. After a few weeks it got better but every few months or so the pain would return and sometimes it was so bad she could barely get out of bed. Then, about 3 years ago she got fed up with the pain and went to a proper doctor who sent her for a scan. It turns out she had a herniated disc and a small, non-cancerous tumour on her spine. She's got it all sorted out now but she still gets a recurring pain but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. The moral of the story is that had she gone to the doctor earlier, she could have saved herself a lot of hurt and pain. So always get these things checked out by a professional.

Yep--its time to go to the orthopedist. Your fall reminds me of one blunt force knee drop I took a couple of years ago. Nothing broken, but a scrape and a big bone contusion. I'm still working out kinks from muscle wasting occured during the healing time from all that. > U gotta go get the pros to do what they do to help put you on track to some proper healing!

Funny that you said that... Just soaked in a hot bath for an hour or more and even though the knee wasn't submerged, the swelling, soreness, and stiffness were almost gone. guess from the steam and heat? The knee felt almost normal without a compression sleeve, Need to do more soaking in the tub! Listening to every comment. I promised my son if it didn't get better in a week I'll go down the rabbit hole of trying to get a specialist and then physiotherpist... The last time I injured this knee it didn't take more than a month to heal... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

My mum always says that there's nothing a hot bath and a cup of tea can't cure. Obviously, that's taking things a bit too far but to be fair to her, those two things do cure an awful lot of ailments. Still, I'd definitely recommend seeing a doctor as well though just to be sure the damage isn't worse than you know.

Your Mum is right! I did promise my son if this "wanking" injury isn't better in a week I'll see a doctor. One observation--been sleeping in an over-stretch knee sleeve at night so I wouldn't twist it too much while sleeping--seemed to help initially but this morning woke up and my whole left leg was swollen up below the knee! Probably fluid retention--a sign that I need to get rid of the compression sleeve. Abandoned it today after running errands--instant relief. The knee instantly feels better! No more compression sleeves at night! :eyeroll: Thanks for the advice--you're tha bomb. Actually, took another long soak in a hot bath, flexed and moved the knee up and down, stretching it--when I got out went for a walk--my knee almost felt like normal! Boy, is your Mum right! Yeah, she has her moments. This is completely off topic by the way but I'm pretty excited about it so whatever, but my parents are coming to visit me at the end of February. I haven't seen them since before covid and I've really missed them both. I'll tell my mum that her remedy works

[Edited 1/30/23 2:47am] Do you live far from Chicago? You probably don't want to be doing a lot of travelling with a dodgy knee.

No where near it; won't be doing any travelling until this is healed up! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
