I want to hear Prince the way I use to listen to him.

Well let’s see who’s willing to help me. I want to listen to my music as closely as I can to what I had in my teens. This is how I heard MJ, this is how I heard Prince & I wanna hear it again.

It was the Hitachi CX-W700. $ isn’t the problem. I can find them on the internet, but there’s always something important like the CD player or the radio not working. I can even find replacement parts. I have my old one but no repair shop can help me. I can buy the parts but don’t have the expertise to do what needs done.

My question is whether or not is there a modern equivalent? You can’t really go to the store & listen to the current boomboxes stores just don’t do that anymore. The other issue is that what is available is inexpensive work radios (nothing against it).

This thing came out around 1990. It was big & heavy. It had the usual radio, tape decks & even a cd player. What made it stand out was that it had surround sound & something called 3D on the equalizer. I’ve had high end sound systems with large stand up speakers that this thing rivaled. What’s a modern equivalent?

I’ve looked @ the current top of the line Sony CD player boombox but it doesn’t seem @ least reading the description or watching a few videos that it’s in the same league. The current Bose wave product looks promising. The refurbished option would be $300 but I’d like to hear it before i spend the $ or would anyone here who has one know it’s about the best “boombox equivalent” on the market? Does anyone have any other product suggestions? Either what are the truly best boomboxes that are out nowadays or does anyone have or remember the Hitachi & knows what a good modern equivalent to that sound would be?

Thank you so much to anyone who try’s helping.

I rip the CDs in FLAC quality
That way I am hearing it in the best quality

This is the way I listen too or hi res MP3s for my phone on the road.

I don't miss or ever want to go back to cassettes lol

[edit] To answer the question, with enough money and the internet, you can find anything like this, typically on ebay. Check independent sellers of used audio equipment in your area that maybe refurb these things.
