The Game Awards 2022

I know I'm probably barking up the wrong tree here but will anyone be watching the Game Awards on Thursday? For those of you who don't know, it's kind of like the Oscars but for videogames. And I think it actually has higher viewing figures than the Oscars which kind of shows how popular videogames have become in relation to movies.

I've only played one of the games nominated for the main award this year so I can't really make any solid predictions. I assume Elden Ring will win but I haven't played that yet. I'm hoping Stray wins. That's a game where you play as a lost cat in a futuristic, Blade Runner-type world where robots have mysteriously replaced humans and you have to find out why. Sounds weird but it's really well done.

So, any gamers on the org?

My son plays Minecraft too but he's more into Roblox these days. Costs me a bloody fortune lol . I'm convinced these types of games are only made to bleed parents dry.

My ps4 pretty much died. So I went with out gaming for a while.
I only played a couple games online. Mostly "Dead By Daylight"

I got myself a PS5 about a month a go. I dont get to play as much as I like to. But sometimes when i play i get bored.

Anywho i like stuff like. Resident Evil series. The last of Us, Fatal frame, Far Cry. Uncharted, Mortal kombat. Wrestling. I love horror games! I recently played The Dark Pictures Anthologu : Man Of Maiden. I have a lot of games I've yet to really play.

I dont know about the gaming awards. But I'm sure there are some great gsmes

Oh yeah that Stray cat game looks cool. Maybe when the price drops I'll look into it

I think Stray has been on sale a few times already so I'd expect it to get a nice reduction around Christmas. It's really good but very short. Short games are perfect for me though because between work and the boy, my game time is limited.

I've played through the first two of those Dark Pictures games. Too scary for me to play alone though so I'll probably never get around to the rest. I do really like the Far Cry games. Never played the first 3 but 4, 5 and 6 were really fun. The Uncharted games are some of my favourites too. Especially Uncharted 4 and the spin off with Chloe.

In terms of the awards, I actually couldn't care less about who wins what. But they always have some big new game announcements as part of the show so that's where my interest is.

I will keep my eye on it.

It was on sale for Black Friday. If you are familiar with the playstation store you know prices in games will drop, well if you are willing to wait.
Its funny because when ever they have game sales it makes me want to buy. It's like Fomo. Then I got to remember I have a ton of games I need to play or finish.

My next for sure game will be Resident Evil 4 Remake (out next year).
Dead Space has my attention too, but the price is too high for me.

Didn't know they had their own ocars but it makes sense.

Play some GTA IV and Battlefront every now and then but I have to put time limits myself.

I've grown up with video games, since there were video games. grandpa

They need a snappier name. Like calling the Oscars / Academy Awards "The Movie Awards", c'mon now.

Paperboy
is the best arcade game. SNES is the best console (big-upps to Rocky Rodent). 3D is zZzZZZZzZZzZZZzz.

Lotta great video game channels on YouTube though, not gonna lie. Gaming Historian. this dude Summoning Salt who does "The History of" various speedrun records, SNESdrunk, RetroBird is damn solid, and of course the OG Angry Video Game Nerd. Gamers are passionate, that's for sure.

Fomo has made me preorder the PS VR2 confused . I don't think there's anything announced for it yet that I want but I know if I don't get it I'll regret it.

The MTV Movie Awards already has that naming convention down. Straight to the point lol

I used to have a Paperboy handheld game when I was younger. I think it's still in my parents garage back in Australia. That provided me with minutes of fun lol

I never had a SNES. I just missed out on that. My first console was a N64 I inherited from my dad after he got an Xbox. I only had like 4 or 5 games though.

I never watch any gaming YouTubers with the exception of the channel SwitchUp. Their review scores typically align with my own opinions so I tend to trust their views.

Sweet!
I have a Psvr. But have not touched it in years.
I wonder if the controllers will even keep a charge.
I'd like a psvr2, but I know I wouldn't play it much.

I played the first PSVR but I didn't own it so I was never able to play anything on it whenever I wanted. But I was very impressed with the whole concept of virtual reality. I had considered getting one of the Valve headsets but I can't afford it. I can barely afford the PSVR 2 but I'm paying it off week by week.

I have maybe 10/12 vr games. It was really cool. Especially horror games like Paranormal activity, resident evil.

I found playing in Vr could be exhausting. Some games made me a little dizzy. I think it had more to do with the type of game. That or it takes time to get use to the game. Example: 1 game where u pilot a space ship. You could full spin the screen left/right or up/down full circle. I couldn't play it for long. Other games didnt bother me much.

Psvr was pricey. I spent a lit of money and never used it much.
I doubt I buy another. But I'm sure it be nice to have or play.

Let us know how the psvr2 is when you get it

That shark demo that came with the original PSVR was great fun. I'm not so sure about horror games in VR though. I remember trying a game (it might have been a demo) where you're tied up, about to be killed. It felt a little too real for me. Great for people who like horror but that's not me. Resident Evil would be great too, I'd say, if you're into that kind of thing. Personally, I'm more interested in games like that new Horizon Call Of The Mountain game. Massive, life sized mechanical dinosaurs beat out zombies any day of the week as far as I'm concerned.

I just hope this generation of VR gets more "real" games. I'm not interested in 2 hour long tech demos. Give me stuff like Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect in VR.

The PSVR2 is out in February and if I've saved up enough to afford it by then, I'll definitely do a little review or something for it here. For all two people who would be likely to read it lol .

So, any gamers on the org?

Are you serious? I've been gaming since PONG came out for the Atari 2600 in 1977.

I never made the jump to next-gen consoles, I'm perfectly happy playing the classics on PS3(phat version) & PS2(slim version). Recently I was having issues with both, but I found a place in lower Manhattan (on Wall St.) that repairs game systems, even the old ones like I have. They took care of me, now I'm back in business. Even found a retro gaming store on 6th Avenue & 39th St. that sells PS2 controllers. I'm in heaven now!

I never get tired of these classics;
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PSX), Tekken 5 (PS2), Hulk-Ultimate Destruction (PS2), NBA Street 1 & 2 (PS2), Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3), DOOM (PSX), GTA IV (PS3), Episodes from Liberty City (PS3), GTA V (PS3) and of course all five PS2 GTAs (especially San Andreas). For the PS3 version of SA, Rockstar fixed the issues that made certain missions nearly impossible (like Zero's), but the atmospheric effects aren't as good as the PS2 version, and certain songs were removed. I'd say GTA San Andreas, MK Trilogy, Unreal Tournament 3 and Unreal Tournament '99 (PC) are my all-time favorites.

I even have my old systems from the 80s, ColecoVision w/ the Atari 2600 Adapter, Driving Module(for Turbo) & Tracball(for Slither). I also have the Atari 7800. They're in a closet at my Dad's house. Haven't played them in ages, but I'm sure they'd still work.

Have you never been tempted to get into more modern games? If you like San Andreas, I assume you'd like GTA V. I've personally never played either but GTA V seems to be generally considered a big deal. But aside from that, there are some great games around nowadays. I'm sure some of them would join your list of classics.

Speaking of classics, I notice a lot of playstation games amongst your favourites. Have you ever had any of the Nintendo consoles?

I have GTA V for the PS3. Excellent game, but not as great as San Andreas, or even GTA III or Vice City. I'm still sticking with PS3 because the newer systems aren't backwards compatible and I have a big library of PS3 games. Maybe I'll change my mind when GTA VI comes out in 2024 - that's my favorite franchise (along with MK & Unreal Tounament).

I had a SNES & a Sega Genisis, but I put them away once the PSX came out in '95.

Is it a case where you're just not interested in any PS4 or PS5 games or is it just that there aren't enough of them to justify the expense. Or do you just not have the time? As my son gets older I find that I have less and less time to myself. Especially now that it's just the two of us. The only games I get to play nowadays is two player Fifa. And I'm absolutely terrible at it. He beats me every time. The Switch is great though because I can bring it into work and play it on my breaks or on the bus. In fact, if you ever do decide to get a newer console, I'd definitely recommend the Switch. It's a godsend.

I'm not sure about now because I stopped following Psvr games. But at the time there wasnt a lot of full length "real" games. I can only think of resident evil 7 and Elder scrolls.(there was probably more) Alot of the games were a bit on the short side, but still enjoyable to play.

I subscribed to 2 psvr youtubers. "PolishPaul" the other was "PsVrOnParol". They had great reviews on games. I'd go and look at their past video to help deside on which titles to buy. But I also got fomo watching their videos because they were hyped for some games.

If you post a review I'll give it a read 👍

Unfortunately, as I said, I never really got to have a proper go on it so I never really got to play anything of substance but I saw one game called Blood & Truth and it looked great. And there was an Iron Man game too. Hopefully those games get released for the PSVR2.

Exactly. Like I said, I only play certain franchises. I don't like the newer MK games, I much prefer the gameplay of the old ones (MKI, MKII, MK3, UMK3, MK Trilogy). And there's no Unreal Tournament game for PS5.

I may change my mind for GTA 6, but that's a long way off;

I've never played a Mortal Kombat game. I'm terrible at fighting games. I feel like I need three hands to play Street Fighter lol . Even Smash Bros, which I assumed would be easy because it's made by Nintendo, is way too difficult.

GTA 5 is pretty good. I never got too far.
But it says I've played 24hrs 😶

I like all types of games. Fighting, sports, first person shooters. But when it comes to these types of games (online) I suck. I've played online an get my ass kicked.. bad 😂 so I mostly stick to off line campaign, story modes

I use to game & (voice chat) with some one here on the Org. Mk10, MK11, Friday 5he 13th, unjustice, WWE. Dead by daylight. It was fun

My VR games (I'm only listing because I'm looking at my ps5 now)
Dont knock twice
Here they lie
Resident evil 7
The persistance
Rez Infanite
Thumper
Moss
Cold iron
Paranormal activity
The exorcist vr
Archangel
Wipeout
Killing floor
Gun Jack
Pirate flight
Blood rush
Torn
Transference
Rec Room
Doon vfr
Dying reborn
Weeping Dool
Megaton rainfall
Skyrim
Statblood arena (this game made me dizzy)
Bound

A few of these were free. Most I bought on sale
And I have more that came with PS+ subscription.
Not listed because I never played or d/l them.

Jesus that a lot of games 😂
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow
I will take my place, In the great below

Only fighting games I play are MK and Tekken. I'm better at MK than Tekken.

Wow. That IS a lot of games. Skyrim in VR sounds like it would be great. Hopefully that gets released for the PSVR2. In fact, hopefully a lot of these games get PSVR2 upgrades.

I'd recommend a game called Fated: The Silent Oath. One of the few VR games I actually got to play from start to finish. It's only about 2 hours long but great while it lasts.

The only fighting game I was ever good at was a game called Soul Calibur 2. A friend of mine back in Australia had a GameCube and I'd sometimes go over to his house after school and play. Link from the Zelda games was a playable character in it. If you could track down a copy of that on your PS2 I'd definitely recommend you give it a go.
