Stranger Things 4

Who's wachtching?

The first episodes were so so for me, i had to get used to the cast, but than it crapped me....again.

I'm at e7 now, the episodes are pretty long, sometimes they could be a little bit shorter.

But the villian is great, the story is great, the whole situation with 11, its just all done really well.

S1 is still the best for me, but this season gets close.

I liked that they used Journey's "Separate Ways" in the season 4 trailer headbang

I watched the first 6 episodes...it got to a point were I did not want to go any further and then have to wait 2 months.

I feel like it was a little slow and I do not like how El and the others are split up. I get they are. or I assume, setting up something big.

I thought they might explain a little too much and leave me wanting more right away... so I decided to leave the last 3 eps for July.

I don't understand why they separated Act 1 and Act 2 with different release dates. If it was to build attention, then they should've just decided to release it on July 1.

Maybe people oly take an abo to see ST 4, this way you have to keep your abo longer.

I only take an abo on Disney when they release a show I like. But they release an episode per week so i have to pay longer

It's as good as it's ever been, imo. And I have no doubt every question and concern will be addressed in the last two episodes. They haven't screwed up yet, I'm not expecting the to start doing so now. Y'all know ep 7 is 1 h 30 m and ep 8 is 2 h 30 m, right? Seems pretty likely the reason there was a gap in the season was to finish all the post production on those two eps (which was evidently freakin massive).

I've watched up to episode 4 so far, and this season is so so good. I dunno if season 1 could ever be beaten, but this is right up there.

We just finished it last Tues/Wed. I'm going to assume everyone's seen all of season four, because I will be posting spoilers.

So first, I don't mind the long times of season 4 at all. It felt un-rushed, but didn't drag either. Despite three previous seasons, we really got to know of the character's personalities. Their insecurities, who they are as young people. I really enjoyed that. The emotional and cerebral was balanced by the supernatural and craziness.

I've never been a Kate Bush fan, nor do I remember hearing "Running Up That Hill," although it's conceivable that over time I have heard it somewhere. It didn't feel familiar. Of course, now, I'll never get it out of my head. I'm okay with that.

I am consistently loving finding Easter eggs. The whole idea of the government chasing after a girl with a super power they want to weaponize is pure Firestarter. David Keith used his powers and got nose bleeds, like Eleven. Kids facing down an evil entity is IT to a T. Even kids on bikes headed to wherever they're going is a lot of E.T. (Not SK, but you know.)

One episode in the past was called "The Body," an obvious homeage to King's novella "The Body" in Different Seasons, which was made into the film Stand By Me. (There's another nod to that with the kids on a train track.)

Even Vecna falling out of the window and then disappearing is a big nod to Halloween.

So those things (there are so many more) are fun for a Gen Xer like me, who was a kid when all these movies and books came out originally.

I didn't necessarily realize Vecna was also 001 early on. My roommate always tries to figure things out like that. I don't. I sorta take it where it is and let the scene or episode play out. Eventually it dawned on me, but I didn't think about it early on.

Eddie's guitar scene was so fucking episode. I'm not a metal head at all, but I really loved that whole sequence. Not only was it the MOST. METAL. EVER., it also really gave Eddie a send-off that he deserved. Despite being a D&Der, or an outcast, he still had redemptive qualities; he was still a human with a heart, and we got to see that. Instead of leaning back into being a fuck up, he purposely stepped forward into being a hero. It was an anti-hero in a lot of ways.

Steve and Robin need their own spinoff, a comedy. Each season they start a new job together, trudge through it, then get fired at the end of the season. By season 4, they start their own business. Boom, done. End of series. (You're welcome, Netflix.)

I really enjoyed everyone not coming out on top at the end. They got to a point of being stable, but there's so much ahead of them, and they know it. It's not necessarily a cliffhanger in the proper sense, but it's an ominous "aww shit, again?" moment. I almost thought that maybe Vecna had created an illusion for all of them to believe they were in the free and clear until the very end when we started to see - the snowflakes... whatever they are falling.

Overall, I'm really happy with the season. Episode 9 "The Piggyback" had more special FX in it than the whole of season 3. FUck yeah it did!

Also, if you call that Surger Boy Pizza number, there's something there for you. 805.45PIZZA.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
