My CD drive is inventing new pronblems as it fucking goes along. As of next week I'm never burning a CD again. Give me Mini disc any day of the fucking week. From now on my life is getting drunk and being disgusting. If I want music I'll just buy a CD a listen to it. No more of this shite.

However, you could just try getting yourself a decent CDRW drive with some decent quality CDRW media. You can pick up a nice 40x CDRW (internal IDE) really cheaply nowadays, and with even cheap disks they are fast and reliable.

By the way I used to have a shitty old 4x CD writer too... it was just crap, always failing burns, wasting disks etc, taking ages to write etc. I wouldn't even bother wasting time trying to get it working - do what I did, ditch it next chance you get and get a faster, modern CDRW "burnproof" drive.

Also when you burn, shut down everything including screensaver. Sometimes the memory pulled to do another function causes skips and buffer underruns.

You are not answering the question, do you shut everything down when it burns. Are you sure it is burning it right?
Play it on another cd player and see if it skips. If it does is the burn process and not the play process.

First of all - external CDRW drives are very expensive. Also, your PC is quite old and it probably doesn't have Firewire or SCSI connectors on the back. It might not even have USB! So external is probably not an option.

Internal CDRW drives are a lot cheaper. However it means opening up your PC, plugging in a ribbon cable, a power cable, screwing the drive in place etc. Dead easy, but if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself you might need to ask (or pay) someone to do it for you.

Ideally you could just borrow an external CDRW drive (or even a Zip drive, or a portable removable hard drive) for shuttling your music over from one PC to the other.

Setting up a network between your two PCs is easy enough, but takes a bit of techy know-how. Better off asking a mate to do it for ya if you aren't sure. Alternatively... you could bring your new PC and your old PC to a local PC repair place and ask them to put the old hard drive (from your old PC) into your new PC as a spare drive. Or you could do it yourself. That's what I'd do.

Your new PC is probably going to have a CDRW drive in it so there's no point in buying another one, just as a one-off.
