Coleslaw tastes bad

The taste of coleslaw is gross, especially with mayo.

I agree. I tried it once. I'll never try it again.

I've never been a big fan of raw cabbage. I used to like KFCs coleslaw as a kid but that's because it's sweet. As an adult it tastes spoiled to me now. Disgusting. I have tasted good coleslaw once on vacation a long time ago but don't remember where.

Love cole slaw, esp. with BBQ.

I don't know what the hell happened to KFC's cole slaw. It's definitely taken a hit over the years.

It just taste runny as hell now. Interesting someone made a post about this because that's what I ate on yesterday with some baked beans and Publix cole slaw. The taste of cole slaw varies according to who makes it. I generally found Publix and Jim N Nick's to have the best tasting cole slaw.

There are different types of it.

There's a goopy kind that has a lot of mayo and other mess in it.

Then there's one everyone here calls summer slaw. It's pretty much what KFC's used to be. Crispy, a much thinner dressing that had a tiny bit of mayo, but was buttermilk based. It had some sugar and green onions (scallions) in it. It's bright, and fresh tasting.

THAT is good slaw. There is also Asian slaws that are good as part of a larger dish (or on fish and shrimp tacos, etc).

RAISINS DO NOT BELONG IN POTATO SALAD OR COLESLAW. The good Lord above has already spoken on this.

There are great copycat recipes for the older version of KFC's slaw. It's delicious. But it needs green onion, not regular onion. Find one with green onion.

I also make an alternate slaw with shredded Brussel sprouts, bacon, boiled eggs, crumbled feta cheese, chopped green onion, and homemade Caesar dressing. (I swear by Ina Garten's Caesar recipe. It's like crack for salad.)

I agree with everything you said. Raisins have no home in these salads. The KFC coleslaw used to be nice and is now sour goop (seems mass produced sour and cheap).

I will seek out this summer salad recipe you speak of. The feta and green onion slaw you talk about could be cool too.

Thank goodness I've avoided the whole raisins in coleslaw or potato salad. I keep hearing about it. But all this talk of raisins in salads got me craving carrot salad. Guess I gotta go make some.

I. Cannot. Stand. Carrots.

Carrot salad with raisins. If that was all left to eat on earth, I'd just lay in the sun and let the birds pick at me until I die.

Hideous!

LOL lol

I've loved carrots (and spinach) since I was a baby. You can have the raw cabbage.

I miss raisins in coronation chicken ever since I become vegetarian, many moons ago. But on their own raisins are barely palatable. Don't get the hype, they're just dried grapes. Where's the water content? neutral

Or grapes are just watered down raisins.
