Well, I'd be the first to commend you for avoiding pirating music. I buy the music I like. However, you could just try getting yourself a decent CDRW drive with some decent quality CDRW media. You can pick up a nice 40x CDRW (internal IDE) really cheaply nowadays, and with even cheap disks they are fast and reliable.

By the way I used to have a shitty old 4x CD writer too... it was just crap, always failing burns, wasting disks etc, taking ages to write etc. I wouldn't even bother wasting time trying to get it working - do what I did, ditch it next chance you get and get a faster, modern CDRW "burnproof" drive.

Also when you burn, shut down everything including screensaver. Sometimes the memory pulled to do another function causes skips and buffer underruns.

[This message was edited Tue Apr 29 16:39:20 PDT 2003 by SexLovely] Hey SexLovely... if you are comfortable installing a CD writer in your PC yourself, you can pick one up in the UK pretty cheaply from places like Dabs (www.dabs.com) and Scan (www.scan.co.uk). As long as it is an IDE internal, it should be fine with your PC... As for brands... it doesn't really matter. I'm happy with my cheap LG drive, so I'd recommend that. I've been happy with Panasonic / Matsushita ones at work too, and Plextor. Any of them really. Pricewise... you should be able to get something decent for between 30 and 40 quid... if you are going for an OEM model. The fancy retail packs are more like double that, coz you are paying for a colourful box and a nice manual etc. Of course if you wanted you could just put the hard drive from your old PC into your new PC as a second hard drive... and you'll have access to all your media files. Or you could set up a little network and copy the files across a network. Lots of alternatives if the idea of buying and installing a CDRW drive sounds like too much hassle.

Bare with me, I know very little compared 2 U. Is installing a CD-W difficult? As far as I got told, all I would have 2 do is put a cable in 1 of the externals as U would with a printer. IDE internal?? Brands dont matter, good. Just aslong as its the right kind. Old PC hard-drive in2 new PC make second hard-drive??? Set up small network??? Whats the easier option outta the 3? Old PC hard-drive in2 new PC make second hard-drive??? Set up small network??? Whats the easier option outta the 3? Thanx buddy. :d Hi there... First of all - external CDRW drives are very expensive. Also, your PC is quite old and it probably doesn't have Firewire or SCSI connectors on the back. It might not even have USB! So external is probably not an option. Internal CDRW drives are a lot cheaper. However it means opening up your PC, plugging in a ribbon cable, a power cable, screwing the drive in place etc. Dead easy, but if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself you might need to ask (or pay) someone to do it for you. Ideally you could just borrow an external CDRW drive (or even a Zip drive, or a portable removable hard drive) for shuttling your music over from one PC to the other. Setting up a network between your two PCs is easy enough, but takes a bit of techy know-how. Better off asking a mate to do it for ya if you aren't sure. Alternatively... you could bring your new PC and your old PC to a local PC repair place and ask them to put the old hard drive (from your old PC) into your new PC as a spare drive. Or you could do it yourself. That's what I'd do. Your new PC is probably going to have a CDRW drive in it so there's no point in buying another one, just as a one-off.
