What do you have a good knowledge of?

I feel like this site must have a ton of experts in so many areas, be it career, hobby or life circumstances. I wondered what the breadth of skills are here.

The skills that got me a Master's degree in Public Administration: writing and research. Skills that pay off in real life. Plus an inherent distrust of people, in general. razz lol

I actually can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'm pretty good at playing the piano I suppose. I also had an after school job in a hair salon so I'm decent at doing people's hair and stuff.

Wish you could do my hair; tired of cutting it myself after two and a half years... razz lol

Caretaking. Don’t always enjoy it, but I’m good at it. Friends say that I’m also good at providing a safe & nurturing environment for people in vulnerable states, whatever that means.

I’m geeked out about many interests, but I’m not necessarily good at them (i.e. music, history, books etc). They’re just general information.

I haven't had my hair cut in 2 years, not properly. I've just had to improvise. You just see where there are long bits you don't like and cut.

Loved the answers too & they inspire me. I rarely get the chance to reflect on what I’m good at so this thread gave me that, I wish I could be able to play an instrument or write a novel razz but I really do intend to learn the pedal steel guitar in the foreseeable future, that’s a bucket list item that will be fulfilled.

The gift of caretaking is special, many don't have the touch for a very demanding job. That's not a knock per say...some folks don't possess emotional IQ of being there.

True, but some folks don't have the inherent talent to expand on learning the basics. A lot of folks can play chopsticks or "Heart and Soul" on a piano. Can they play anything else and not sound like a 4th grade recital? Nope. hahaha

I can play many instruments. Well, quite a few anyway. None of them were hard to learn and I definitely don't consider myself gifted in any way. It just takes time. There is nothing special about me. I just put the practice in. Anyone can do it if they practice enough. In fact, I'm sure most people could learn faster than I did because I'm self-taught. I've been teaching my daughter to play this and that and she's picking it up really fast. Kind of makes me wish I wasn't such a cocky bitch when I started playing lol . I might have mastered it quicker.

Reminds me of when someone asked Prince if he played 26 instruments. He replied that he could play any "instamint," but only 26 well.

Thank you smile you’re absolutely right, but it also has the potentiality of a being a curse too if you’re not too careful, especially when it becomes emotionally draining. Hence why I mentioned earlier that I don’t always enjoy it.

Right! Except it’s expensive to acquire the instrument I want, which is why I said I’ll learn it in the future. I could use an app initially but I don’t want that to be my starting point, I want the real thing smile

Street gangs(don't knock it, knowing that stuff can save your life), and stuff about cities(mainly US and Canadian cities). Things like population, demographics, crime, topography, square mileage... I don't know everything about various cities but i probably know more than the average person.

Oh, and I'm pretty knowledgeable about alcoholism and drug addiction. Some of it is first hand experience(had some issues in my teenage and young adult years), but most is from observation and watching people die from addiction.

Lol, one more thing. Prison life. I've never been to Prison(in my youth i was headed there though), but i do know a lot of people who have been there. One guy just got out after serving 35 years for murder(went in at 18). He was involved in a store robbery and a clerk was shot and killed(he didn't do the shooting). Another guy also just got out. He killed two people with a shotgun. He was like 16/17 when he committed the murders(around 1992). The crazy thing is he did less time than the guy who was involved in the robbery(and again, robber didn't shoot anybody, his cousin did the killing)...

Oh, and music, different bands and groups etc. Some people say I'm pretty good with that. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as some people on here though. wildsign peace

Overall though, I'm kinda a bum and a slacker... neutral

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Does this knowledge make you more inclined to stay away from elements of that side of life though? It would me.

Oh yeah. As i alluded to in my post, in my youth i was definitely headed to prison or the grave. But, after seeing how some of my peers(and adults) lives were going (in and out of CYA-youth prison, jail and adult prison), i realised i didn't want that life for myself. I was never really a straight up criminal or hard core thug, i was more like a mid level juvenile delinquent. From around age 15 to 18 i was incarcerated (in juvenile halls) quite a bit though. I would say that maybe half of the 'friends' i knew back then ended up in prison, and at least 6 or 7 ended up dying young(a few were murdered, but most died due to drunk driving car accidents or drug overdoses).
