RIP: Betty White

AP21015717259751_2.0.jpg

TMZ reports:

Beloved actress, comedian and American icon Betty White has died, just weeks before a milestone birthday.

Law enforcement sources say Betty passed away at her home just before 9:30 AM Friday.

A trailblazer and pioneer in media, Betty had the longest running career for any woman in TV prior to her death -- starring in multiple shows over the past 8 decades, starting way back in 1939.

Betty is perhaps most famous for her lead role as Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls, which ran from 1985 to 1992. She'd been in TONS of other big hits throughout her life though.

____________

I would argue she was quite well known for The Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as a regular on Mama's Family, Match Game and her husband's, Allen Ludden's, shows Password and Password Plus. It was his second marriage (he proposed twice before she accepted), and her third marriage. She was also quite popular on Hot In Cleveland, but really anything she did was golden.

She was once asked why she never married after Ludden. She said, "Well, once you have the best, there's no need."

I was really looking forward to her being 100. I hate it when folks die just before their next birthday. What a landmark that would've been for her.

And let's not forget the work she did with animals for decades, well before anyone ever really knew it or drew light to it.

Man, she was an awesome lady.

What a sad way to end the year. She missed her 100th birthday by only 17 days. A funny lady and a great talent. She was absolutely priceless as Sue Ann Nivens and I loved her in the Golden Girls too. Very sad news. sad

Just shy of her 100th; that's a shame. But what a great life she had. Seems like she would live forever; seemed like she quit aging at 80! lol Too bad she didn't get to have a big 100th b-day party like George Burns did. R.I.P. rose rose

Her Twitter, obviously pre-arranged, tweeted that she was going to be on the cover of People magazine on newstands tomorrow. The cover leaked, too.

Bless her soul. Other than Golden Girls, the other role I remember her most, which for some odd reason is very seldom mentioned, is Ellen on Mama's Family. lol She was on the first two seasons and filmed one episode on the third season. I believe they had already began filming Golden Girls at the time Mama started it's third season.

Thank you. I don't understand people who say they are upset by someone dying at nearly 100. It's the most natural thing, and is likely even welcome.

I had an aunt who died at 103, and for years she wanted it to be over.

I'm surprised Betty White never appeared on the original Twilight Zone. So many actors from her generation guest starred on the Twilght Zone such as Jack Klugman, Carol Burnett, William Shatner, Elizabeth Montgomery just to name a few

Betty wasn't ready to shuffle off this mortal coil quite yet.

I loved her game show appearances. She was so good on them and totally was my childhood watching her. The Golden Girls is a pure classic. My mom introduced me to that show. Also, she had a funny little part in You Again with Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver. Her rival in the movie was Cloris Leachman. Kind of an overlooked comedy. She will be missed.
