Help Finding A Video, of sorts?

Okay, to my knowledge, this is not a music video. It's likely something longform, maybe music related.

WHen we used to go to the clubs, they played a lot of Industrial and electronic type music. (This was 1990 when Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, KMFDM, The KLF, Adamski, etc were all over the place.)

On the nights when they were more Industrial-heavy, they played this video on the screens in the club. I'll do my best to describe it.

I believe it was probably stop action type stuff. It was these robots which were made to look like animals of sorts. There was a mother, an offspring, etc. They were in a cave, there was fire. Somehow something happened to the baby, or the mother. Like a bigger robot animal creature came in to destroy them. The others seemed to scream and panic at the attack.

The robots looked like they were made of things like circular saw blades, or a big chef's knife. They didn't necessarily have a "skin" covering. THey were just assembled with pieces of metal in general. Sorta a home-made look to them. It was a mini-movie that seemed to have an industrial/alternative look and feel to it. Very avante garde or off-center stuff. Nothing mainstream. I never knew if there was music to it or not, because they played the music in the club over it.

I've no idea what it is, but I've never forgotten about it. It was trippy as fuck.

This sounds like a Tool video, Tool the band

They used stop motion and it was all a bit trippy

If not, kpowers might be able to tell if it's from a film?? I

I've wiki it and only 3 videos came at this time...

Hush" 1992 Ken Andrews
"Sober" 1993 Adam Jones, Fred Stuhr[67]
"Prison Sex" 1994

My husband thinks it's the latter and having watched it (its horrid) I think it is too.

Please let us know!

I viewed all three.

"Prison Sex" is on the right track. It's about 85% like that video, but less human or doll imagery. More of the mechanical thing near the end. And the 1994 date wouldn't have been it. We were going to clubs in 1990 and early 1991, so that video wouldn't have been made yet. It was all mechanical animals, basically. I think it may have been longer than a typical music video. 20 minutes maybe. The time is up for grabs, because honestly - I've slept since then. haha

No. I'm not sure it was a proper music video. Could've been a weird short film or something. It resembles the Tool videos, as I noted, but this was 1990 or 1991. The Tool videos were a few years after that.

Maybe you can start from the director, animation standpoint. Maybe look for directors who are(were) viewed as being out of the ordinary, obscure, inventive etc. Reddit might be a good start.
