My dad is Ronaldb...retired postal worker. My dad is so laid back that I think he's moving in reverse sometimes. He's also a jerk and cheated on my mom twice.

My Daddy's name is Mark, he is 50 years old

He works for the Orange County Fire Dept.

He is Captain and has been a fireman for 28

years. Although he wasnt around much when I was

My dad's name is Chuck and he does something with computers. Or used to, now he's got a corner office with a view in a printing company. hmmm... 27 years and I still don't really know what he does.

My dad was/is kind of an ass and an alcoholic to boot, but as long as I'm not living with him or hearing about how he treats my momma (who just deals with it but deserves better!) I am mostly at peace with it.

And I must say, he's got some great qualities too. It's from him I get my great yet quirky sense of humour, my love of books and reading and my appreciation of music. My favorite memories as a kid were when my dad would pull out his guitar and the family would sing along. Mostly Buddy Holly and early Beatles songs.

I love my dad, despite everything, and I hope to inherit his guitars someday.

My Dad's name is Ahmed. He was born in Egypt to an Egyptian mother (who swore until the day she died that she was actually Turkish) and a Sudanese father in the mid 1940s (sort of sketchy on the exact year, he likes to fibb).

He immigrated to the US in the late 70s for graduate school, met my mother, got his citizenship and then contributed half of my DNA.

He's a professor now, he loves his job and he's ridiculously good at it, his students love him. We never really got along when I was growing up - it's the typical drama that occurs with an immigrant parent and their Americanized child - we fought constantly about everything; from the clothes I wore, to the way I did my hair, to the company I kept. Unfortunately, because we were always fighting, I've never really had the opportunity to get to know my father. Our relationship is semi-civil now, we still tend to antagonize each other, though. I hope one day I'll understand him better.

After reading these posts, I feel that I know better, where a lot of you are coming from... your stories about your father make me wonder if I'm doing anything or everything wrong.

I think, overall, I'm doing okay.

I'm more involved with my kids that my parents ever were... so, all in all, this thread has been very theraputic...and I thank you all for your very thoughtful and insightful posts...

My father William is 63. He was a contractor before retiring. He was ALWAYS right where I needed him to be and still is! He worked very hard and fully supported our family. He managed to provide a very good family life for my siblings and myself. There is nothing dad would not do for me and for his undying love I am forever grateful!
A brilliant man whom I couldn't wait to escape as a teen! If I mistakenly asked I wonder HOW this ice maker works, he would then provide an explanation so detailed that I could then build the damn thing! Which in turn led into many tangents about math, chess, politics and absolutely anything to do with science! Four hours later, *crickets chirping* .. You get the picture! He read books at the rate of one a day. So, there was always plenty to talk about. Unfortunately at that time I could not appreciate father entirely. ( I would engage him in many topics and enjoy it until the 3rd hour or so then I would beg to go off to bed! )
We were very much like oil and vinegar in the teen years. If he said black then I would find a way to prove in fact it was white if it killed me. Many times my mother thought to save me the research and just kill me. I would use the dinner table for expanding my theories on dad. I swore on my life I would never date someone with an IQ like his! ( Some of you will recognize the irony!)

LMAO I just realised this

But he's one cool dude. He's a construction worker and had a real tough time bringing us to adulthood (financially that is), but he managed to get me through school to the point I made it to BSc !. And although he had very little education, he's so damn intelligent he was able to help me with math a long way into my education.

My dad is Wil a construction worker and good with just about everything, grew up son of a share cropper (no shit) and met and married my mom for which I am their only child and even at my age of 29 my father is still there for me.

My dad is my mum.
