I watched a documentary about this a few month's back on TV, which showed loads of evidence that it was, apparently, a hoax.

Such as:

shadows in the photo's that would only be created by numerous light sources, when the cameras that were being used only had one lamp.

the cameras themselves were incorparated into the space-suits at chest level making it impossible for the astronauts to see exactly where they were aiming the camera and yet all the photo's were perfectly centred and in focus.

several of the pictures, supposedly taken on different days and miles apart, had exactly the same background. (they superimposed the images to show they were an exact match down to the last rock)

it was also mentioned that there is a band of radiation between the earth and the moon that would have killed the astronauts.

There was loads of other stuff too, but I can't remember all of it

What about that famed space suit face mask cover photo snap with the obvious sunlight (gold) hitting th eface when the sun was shining supposedly on the opposite side of the moon etc

wasn't that the one they used as the mtv mascot???

yeah that one I think..but I know theres more of a closeup one with the face mask reflecting gold light

Capricorn One:
"Classic conspiracy tale about the first manned mission to Mars. All appears to be going well until the astronauts are pulled off the ship just before launch by shadowy government types and whisked off to a film studio in the desert. It transpires that the space vehicle has a major defect which NASA just daren't admit. At the studio, over a course of months, the astronauts are forced to act out the journey and the landing to trick the world into believing they have made the trip. Meanwhile, a Journalist (played by Gould) is getting suspicious and every clue he uncovers seems to result in an attempt on his life! The astronauts are just about to splashdown when a further twist to the tale occurs, leaving them with no choice but to try and escape..."

I just wonder why would anybody feel the need to lie about all of this

dunno? the space-race with russia perhaps.

what about this space station, isn't it really out there?

did you know that you can actually see the space station with the naked eye?

p.s. for the record i am undecided on the hoax thing, but the program did put forward a very strong argument.

Are you serious??? So if I go outside at night and look at the moon I will be able to see it from here or would I need a telescope?

hhmm, not sure if i'm being goaded here but i'll answer anyway biggrin

firstly looking at the moon wouldn't help at all, cos' the space station's nowhere near it. but it can be seen with the naked eye at certain times of the year depending on your location of course.
it's actually the reflection of the sun on the solar panels that you can see so it just looks like a very bright star. i used the zoom lense on my camera to take a look and could just about make out the shapes of the solar panels, but i'm sure if you had a telescope you'd be able to see much better.

no xenon you are not at all being goaded... I love learning about these kinds of things!! For instance i thought this whole time that space station was set up right near the moon...when you said it can be seen with the naked eye I figured with the brightness of a full moon it would be visible but you explained it quite well...thanks for your input

Yes. Its all a hoax. In reality, the government didn't want us to know the truth: the moon is actually an artificial construct, made out of green cheese. In the year 1977, Elvis faked his death so that he could take on a new role as the CIA director of Lunar affairs. He currently resides on the moon with his top aides, Jim Morrison and Marilyn Monroe. In case of a nuclear war, the president will be relocated to the lunar base, where Elvis will oversee the repopulation of the human race (other "dead" celebs, like Lisa Lopes and Aliyah are there as breeding stock). The moon actually has a perfectly breathable atmosphere, and the fact that it is made of cheese provides an endless food supply (albeit, it is a tad fattening).
