I'm learning two new languages! Anyway... I am learning two languages.
The first is Arabic, which, after a few days of being taught, I'm catching on and understanding how to write it and read some (though reading it takes me much, much longer and then I don't always get it right). And, I forget to go from right to left... But, I at least understand how to form words now, even though I have to refer back to my paper a lot. I was told that it will take a good five to seven years to learn it. I bore quickly, so, we'll see. The second, is Czech. I used to know a little when I was younger, because my grandma, great aunt, and aunt used to speak it to me all the time, but, as time has passed, I have forgotten it. This is coming much easier to me, because of that, and is a lot easier to learn than Arabic. Anyway... I have always wanted to learn at least three languages, other than English, in my life. So, I'm doing it. Just thought I'd share...

Czech is real useful.
We have about a million Czechs running around. I can say a few things in Russian because Alex told me to say them. I'm not sure what they all mean. Oh, and what happened to learning Spanish, Heather? You told me you'd like to learn, I was set to help, but no. Now you have to learn a more useful language like Czech. -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..."

YES! Languages are great! I have a Czech dictionary at home, but I don't know how to pronounce things. I was a crazy kid and wanted it because Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) used to be my favorite country.

It is certainly fun to say... I had an argument with my World Civ teacher Mr. Cox last year because he couldn't pronounce it and I kept correcting him. -------

Yeah... well, I know very little Spanish from taking it in high school and I was all set to learn when you were helping me. I do need to add a third to my list. I can make it Spanish! The good thing about learning these two together is that they are so different that I can't get confused! And, the Czech probably won't be useful unless speaking to my dad or my aunt... but, hey, it would be nice to know the language of that side of my family, right? I guess I could always go there and see the rest of the family and I'd know how to talk to them! Make a trip out of it when I'm done.

We have to, it's our final project. I will send you a copy when I'm finished. It is very good. Mr. Artiga, he helps me... -------

He goes up to my waist about, which means he'd never have to go down too far to... err, go down. -------

Arabic is cool. similar in many ways to Hebrew.
Make sure you learn the spoken language and not the written one, because there's a HUGE difference there. _______________________________

I havent been taking any languages courses as such but Im learning 2 speak 2 new languages myself.
Ive been drinking 4 the past 5 hours and Ive learned how 2 speak quite a bit of Irish and Australian. And there was a massive brawl in the pub I was in and I very quickly learned how 2 speak "scared shitless". Aoww fuck my stomach. "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

Learning a foreign language is 1 of the best things a person can EVER do for self. You don't learn only the language, but also the culture, & a different way of thinking. Ultimately, you learn to appreciate things outside of your "normal circle" of life & you come to appreciate certain things about your own language & culture that you wouldn't have appreciated otherwise.
As most Americans are unfortunately & notoriously MONOLINGUAL there should indeed be a law requiring all US citizens to become fluent in at least 1 foreign language. In fact, this won't need to become a law, because within the next 100 years the US will be essentially bilingual anyway.. Here's 1 joke about Americans & foreign languages, in case you haven't heard it: What do you call someone who speaks 3 languages? - Trilingual. What do you call someone who speaks 2 languages? - Bilingual. What do you call someone who speaks only 1 language? - AMERICAN. Every time I tell this joke to someone from another country, they get a good laugh out of it & say "well, yeah.. that's pretty much true!" GOOD FOR YOU, Azure, that you are motivated to learn about languages & cultures "foreign" to your own. Stick with it, & it will pay off in more ways than you can possibly imagine. I know this from personal experience. I'll see you tonight..
