I Just Saw "Hustlers" and...

I was really impressed by Jennifer Lopez in this.

She was exceptional and now I see what all the hoopla was about her not getting a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

She was THAT good.

This movie should be required viewing for all girls coming up. It bucks against the popular wisdom that this profession is glamorous and a good come up.

It was a good movie, and I appreciated the Janet tracks in it.

In the sorta same but not quite same vein, find and watch The Kitchen, with Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, and Tiffany Haddish. They are basically mob wives of Irish mafia guys who are left to their own devices while their men are in prison. So, they take matters into their own hands. Takes place in the late 1970s.

Despite the cast, it's not a comedy, although you could consider it a dark comedy-adjacent. There are a couple of funny lines, but it's not a slapstick sorta movie at all.

It didn't do well at the box office, but I think it's a really good movie. Definitely a female empowerment movie like Hustlers.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It's on Showtime app, or you can rent it from Amazon.

It's funny you mention that because there was an airing that very night of The Kitchen. I've recorded it and will watch it soon.

Unfortunately it only got an approval rating of 24% but I'm taking your word for it that it's worth my while.

Yeah, I don't know why it scored so low. Maybe people thought with Haddish and McCarthy in it, that it was going to be some slapstick type comedy. Folks can't score based on what they thought it was going to be, but rather what it is.
