Help Me Sleep! As you may know, I'm currently about midway through my pregnancy. In just over 4 months time I'll have a brand new baby boy to join my daughter and son. So, lots to look forward to but in the here and now, I can't sleep and it's driving me insane. The problem is that it's too warm out. And being Irish, I'm not really accustomed to this sort of thing. And the pregnancy isn't helping. I have a little gadget that tells me the humidity and temperature in my room. As I type this the temperature in my room is 29.8 degrees Celsius. Opening the windows doesn't help. I have a fan but it's not exactly quiet and the noise of it keeps me awake. My husband is trying his best to stay as far away from me as possible so as I don't pick up any body heat from him. But again, it doesn't really help. I'm still fucking roasted alive. Does anyone here have any tips for how to stay cool at night. Or even how to lower the temperature in my room. Big fancy air conditioners are ruled out but surely there's another way. Come in, Org. Help a girl out here. I'm fucking dying here!

In Arizona they create this "swamp cooler". It was a cooler full of ice and a fan that blew over the top. Kind of cheap and kind of redneck but it cooled a room pretty quick...until you ran out of ice...

Try sleeping with an ice pack on your neck and one on your belly.

Now I need to convince My husband to allow me to soak the sheets with cold water. I'm sure if I let him know that the alternative is that I'll kill him in his sleep he'll come around.

I have one of those things that you put inside the pillow. A cooling pad, or something. It works for like 5 minutes and then I'm sweating again. My husband is pretty happy about it being a boy. I literally didn't care if it was a boy or girl but after it was confirmed to be a boy I kind of felt relieved in a weird way. Although I will have two boys under the age of two

First thing I'd say is, get rid of the gadget! It will only make you think more about the temperature. And when it's warm outside, opening the windows will let the warm air in. (And flies and mosquitos.) Keep the room as dark and cool as possible. [Edited 7/18/21 12:55pm] If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

I'm not sure if it makes much difference though. It's still like a sauna in there. I'm trying to find the right way to ask my husband if he'd sleep in another room tonight to see if that makes any difference. The man just radiates heat. I can't seem to come up with a nice way of saying it though. Maybe I'll just try the direct approach and tell him to fuck off into the spare room

In the early morning, when the temp is at it's lowest, open all windows and doors for half an hour. Then, when the sun is just rising, shut it all up and put the shades down. That will keep your house cool. "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

I had the bed to myself plus my husband got me a handheld fan that you can put water in and it shoots out a cool mist. It's pretty quiet too so it doesn't keep me awake.

In the long run an AC in one room comes in handy. So how is the Weather like through out the year in Ireland? I'm guessing your winters are cold and rainy??? Do you live near the coast on more in-land?? That plays a part with trade winds.

[Edited 7/18/21 12:55pm] Hi Emma After having mine i got a portable air con the hose hangs out the window, you have to be careful as they piss water so got to read the manual but it's been the best purchase I made, all 400 pounds of it. With little ones it's q relief to have the room cool for them with how sids is linked to temperature. I know that it's a lot of money but if you get a machine that heats and cools you can use it all year round. Apart from that the ice and the fan is good, bur doesn't last long. Also in late preg getting a spray like one of the plant bottles and spraying yourself when the fan is next to you is helpful as it makes you feel cooler. A wet towel allegedly works in front of a fan but I never think that works. Baby boy is going to be getting bigger and so are you so I think investing in a portable air con is the way but they are hazardous to little pkeple as they weigh 5 stone and so you can't leave kids in the room alone with it unless they are unable to leave a cot or play pen. I got a pump house one I do not recommend the customer service and instruction booklet are appalling. x [Edited 7/20/21 11:19am]

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Seriously. I really appreciate it. I'll be trying them all. The reason I said that I was ruling out big fancy air conditioners is because generally, the heat doesn't bother me. It's more the pregnancy that's making me feel uncomfortably warm at night. And after this baby comes, I don't plan on having any more children. So I don't want to be spending so much money on something I'll only use for the next few months. And yet, what does my husband come home with today? A big tower fan thing that's as tall as I am (granted, that's not so tall but still too big for a fan) which cost over €500. Sometimes I think I'm talking to myself...

Rains a lot in winter, sometimes we get a bit of snow too. In the Summer months we're generally guaranteed a couple of weeks of sun. But also some rain. Spring and Autumn are like a mixture of our Summer and Winter. More rain than Summer but more sun than winter. I live on the coast now. A place called Howth, in Dublin. It's handy having the beach there about 2 minutes walk away but I haven't been able to make the most of that for the last two years.

Don't take amphetamines. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

Not much different from Holland then, although I think we have higher temperatures in summer. Sometimes. This year we've had a warm beginning of spring, then snow and ice all of a sudden, a warm June and a pretty normale July so far. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.
