I think the 2005 remake of 'The Amityville Horror' is much better (and more scarier) than the 1979 original.

I'm glad you brought this up. While the Heston one was better overall, none of them stick to the book. The Heston one is outrageously different, and I think Richard Mathison had his name removed from the movie.

The Vincent Price one I've never been able to sit through.

The Will Smith one was okay for a while, but the feral CGI vampires were a bust for me.

I've read the short story. It's incredibly enthralling. The idea of "I am legend," is specific in the book. He's not the last man on earth, he's the last human being, because society has turned into what equates to vampires. They're going to kill him, out of fear of the unknown, in the town square. But a sympathetic nurse gives him a pill or something so he can off himself first. His last words are "I am legend." He knows that despite all of humanity ending, he'll at least be remembered for being the last one.

None of the movies have stuck to the book and really played out that story. It's all about a guy being alone - which it is in many respects - and then facing a larger obstacle with what is basically a new race of humanoid creatures.

Maybe one day someone will do that movie right.

And one of the more interesitng things in the film is a movie marquee showing a Batman vs. Superman film, which was supposed to be made but wasn't, or something. But eventually, it did.

"SCARFACE" with Al Pacino. Supposedly, there's going to be another remake. Both remakes of "A Star Is Born" were better than the original too.

The original was just boring. There was something about a lot of movies in the 70s or even early 80s where they tried to build suspense or something, but it was just boring close up shots. Sometimes, the horror was almost treated as a b-story, not the main thrust of the film.

Thank God for films like Friday the 13th and Tourist Trap which really opened the door to more direct scares, suspense, and maybe even a few now-common tropes.

I liked Janeway. Besides Kirk and Janeway actors are the only ones that had hit Star Trek TV series and additional hit TV series. Others have done well in other arenas.

I take the Omega Man any day over the crappy Will Smith movie

I agree,the original was kinda boring.The remake is so much better.The special effects and the pacing is much improved.This time,the story is genuinely scary and creepy.

But that version has Ryan Reynolds in it and honestly CGI does not make a horror movie better, check out the Unholy as an example. But I agree with you the pacing of the movie was good.

and what's wrong with Ryan Reynolds? I think he's a good actor.He did pretty good in this film.

I can watch the Will Smith version every now and then and find it quite enjoyable but it doesn´t even come close to The Omega Man, which I could watch again and again because I really love 1970s sci-fi movies.

And there´s so much to discover in The Omega Man, lots of hidden details. I think I´m going to watch it again tonight. It´s on the free internet library.

Star Trek started to become popular when the reruns were syndicated in the 1970s. I'm surprised there's not a new version of T.J. Hooker though, since other old TV shows were either made into movies (I Spy, Charlie's Angels, Beverly Hillbillies, Mission Impossible, etc.) or had reboots as TV shows (Magnum P.I., New Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan's Planet, Hawaii 5-0)

Evil Dead II is a better remake of Evil Dead.

Bigger budget and the experience of making the first one seemed like a factor.

A Start is Born has been made four times - 1937, 1954, 1976 and 2018. The 1937 original (with Janet Gaynor and Frederic March) is far and away the best.

Except in reruns (syndication) it was a hit. Mama's family was the number one syndicated show once it left NBC and did all new shows thru syndication.It held that number one spot the rest of their run.
