Reaction videos on YouTube

I can't believe this is a thing that exists. There I was, scrolling through YouTube because I had a few minutes to kill and a video pops up titled something like "So and so reacts to something-or-other". The curiosity got the better of me so I clicked. Not to see this person's reaction. I just wanted to see if someone had actually filmed their reaction to something and posted it. Surely there has to be something else, right? It can't just be someone "reacting" to something. But no. There was nothing else. It was literally just a video of some girl watching something and pretending to be excited about it. But it had 40000 views. Which I thought was odd.

Then I find out afterwards that this is nothing compared to other videos of the same ilk. There are LOADS of "reaction" videos. And some of them have millions of views. Is this the kind of thing that passes for entertainment now? Watching people over-react to the most mundane shit? And not one of the reactions I seen was a genuine reaction. Just people screaming and hollering like a bunch of mental patients.

It got me thinking though. These people are making money off this kind of carry on. Maybe I should create my own YouTube channel to "react" to things. Only where my channel would differ is that it would be genuine reactions. So most of the time it's just me sitting there in silence for 5 minutes. Then the video ends. What do you think? Should I go for it?

I've watched a few "Village people try (some western food) for the 1st time" reaction vids, they can be kind of funny when they're genuine. I have certain ones for certain shows or movies. I can't say I watch many of them given how many there are out there because a lot of the time it's so repetitive that I reserve viewing for those special aha moments. Love to see a different point of view from time to time though.

falloff

I follow a couple of these people on YT (just music reactions) because I enjoy seeing intelligent people listen to something that I've loved most of my life and explaining what they like about it. They have also turned me on to music.

Tried watching a few others and have a hard time giving a shit.

I might watch it. Depends, if you're just sat there for 5 minutes saying nothing you better be cute.

If you're just gonna sit there straight-faced, then you might want to consider some crazy-ass, non-descript background nonsense to clash with the main subject of which you are reacting to.

It's not that I'd go out of my way to be straight faced or anything. It's just that happens to be my genuine reaction to most things. I was really excited for the last Avengers movie but I didn't start howling and jumping around like some sort of delinquent when I first seen the trailer, you know? You see some of these reaction videos and you look at these people and the way they over-react to everything and you can't help but think that they're either putting it on or they need psychiatric help.

What's the difference in this and people screaming, crying, and fainting at Beatles & Michael Jackson concerts? lol There's plenty of footage & photos of that. Filmed concerts often have audience shots. So people have watched other people react to entertainment for decades. razz Same for when they had live audiences for TV sitcoms, people laughing. If there wasn't an audience, then there was a pre-recorded laugh track.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The difference is that there really aren't any current "entertainers" to make people lose their minds.

Your "pre-recorded" laugh track is all we have left.

Well anybody crying or fainting at a concert is ridiculous too but it's not the same thing. There's a massive difference between attending a live show and sitting in front of a computer screen in a room by themselves.

Perhaps it's a cultural thing? Broadly speaking, Americans do have a reputation for being, let's say, more excitable.

Isn't it people in Europe who turn over cars and have riots after soccer games? razz

My reaction to that particular trailer would be just an eyeroll. And maybe a yawn. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it. But the trailer does nothing to build my anticipation.

Phase3

The stuff they come up with now days.
I would be excited if it was popular celebrity I liked reacting to my favorite musician.
Let's say "Johny Depp reacts to Prince's Superbowl performance"
I would click that link very fast, but to watch a regular person post reaction videos, making money off it,and most likely acting and over reacting, naw that doesn't intrigue me at all but being that your from the org and you seem cool,I think you should go for it

I think these reaction videos exlpoded on the scene due to the Covid 19 stay at home order. People bored and on their computers, makes sense. Honestly some are pretty interesting. There's this one rection channel of two young girls (I would say 10 and 13 years old) who are discovering (and loving) classic Rock music such as the Doors, Deep Purple, Journey, Guns and Roses, the Beatles and so on headbang

The more I think of it the more I think I should genuinely do it at some point. Mostly just for a laugh and an as an in-joke with the org. Like, do one where I'm "reacting" to a bunch of stuff I hate. Like Will Smith, modern chart music, Will Smith movies, Adam Sandler, Will Smith's wife, unnecessary remakes of classic movies, Will Smith's kids etc.
