Disney buying DC? What?

Now, a new report has dived into the ins and outs of the deal, and at this stage it looks a lot more likely that Disney could end up buying DC than Justice League 2 or 3 happening, which would certainly be a shocking turn of events. As per the story, AT&T want out of the entertainment sector altogether, and once the new WarnerDiscovery conglomerate has officially been formed, the company will look to sell it off.

DC has been tied to the Time Warner corporation in one capacity or another since the 1960s, with the comic publishing company helping provide a wealth of characters and intellectual property to inspire movies and television. Over the past decade or so, DC's own role as a subsidiary of Warner Bros. has changed significantly with the advent of DC Entertainment, which manages both the publishing arm and the various other adaptations inspired by the characters. Those evolutions have only grown more public since AT&T's purchase of Time Warner in 2018, with some highly publicized executive changes and creative decisions on both the film and publishing sides.

With what? They just bought 20th Century Fox (without Fox News). Disney has been losing money since Covid closed all of the Disneyland parks & cruise ships. They've also had to postpone their movies over a year including Marvel since most theaters were closed. I'm not sure this will be approved since it would be a monopoly if Disney owns the 2 biggest comic book companies Marvel & DC. If Disney bought Dark Horse Comics that would be different.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I'm guessing you seen this on that We Got This Covered website. Just so you know, that website is full of shit. The writers publish their own wishful thinking and pass it off as news. You should have seen their "exclusive scoops" on Avengers Infinity War, all of which turned out to be bullshit.

Disney is not buying DC.

It showed up in my feed and I Googled it because it sounded so nutty it had to be a one off comment then I saw several articles. I get it they all are copying each other.

This keeping track off who has bought who is crazy. The whole breaking monopolies game has been over.

Disney Tried to Buy Warner Bros. In 2016
According to a report from The New York Times, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger tried to purchase Time Warner in 2016 and nearly succeeded.

Disney tried to buy Warner Bros. in 2016, according to a new report. The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923, but since 1993, the Mouse House has made numerous attempts to increase its size by acquiring various other media companies. Disney’s first significant acquisition came in 2006 with the purchase of Pixar for $7.4 billion, followed by Marvel and Lucasfilm for $4 billion each. Disney’s most recent acquisition was 21st Century Fox for $71.3 billion, giving them control of a major Hollywood studio.

This WarnerMedia-Discovery merger is clearly an attempt to step up their streaming game. Zaslav says their goal is to reach 400 million subscribers on their new platform. Though there are no details as to what the new company’s streaming service will look like, there will likely be a lot of options and flexibility. For instance, HBO Max is expected to launch a cheaper, ad-supported version soon, which Discovery+ already offers. With such a vast and storied library of content of popular IPs, it will be interesting to see what kind of streaming service this massive AT&T merger births.

Agreed. If anything Disney would want is WB's Harry Potter.

Disney theme parks were losing money. A lot of it. Nothing else Disney related has been losing money. They are so profitable they basically print their own, which is why they were able to take billions in loses while their parks were closed.

The only reason this would matter or make any difference to most people is if Disney owned both of them they could make movies and tv shows with iconic characters from both sides. For me anyway, outside of that, boring news. Also, agreed, it's pretty doubtful they'll be able to pull this off. The only reason it's even something they can talk about is because they have so much cash that it's actually feasible.
