I just wrote a letter of resignation

Because I got a new job! excited Beyond grateful - after two months of furlough, four months of unemployment and eight months in a job I hate - to be going back to what I do best.

I was super magnanimous in the letter. They don't really deserve it (I was not treated well), but I channeled every bit of "don't burn bridges" feeling I had in me. As they say, "Be careful of the toes you step on today. They may be connected to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow."

This experience brought home to me in the starkest terms why you never want to be in a situation in which someone you consider a friend becomes your boss. Unless, of course, you're in the middle of a global pandemic and it's your only option.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Congrats on your new job, does it have to do with theatre/acting?

Thanks, all. It's been such a whirlwind. They were actually nice as can be when I gave notice at my current job. I went to AZ for a few days to see my mom (which I'd actually planned weeks ago) and now I'm back for my final week. Taking a week off between jobs to celebrate my birthday and clear my head.

The new job is not theatre-related - that's always been a hobby, not how I make a living. But it is a writing job in apparel. So I'm going back to what I know, which I'm super happy about.

I appreciate the kind words and wishes! smile

Congratulations! You're absolutely on point with not burning bridges (you never know how it might help/hurt in the future) and not working for friends (unless it's a global pandemic and you have no choice).

She did give me a glowing performance review, though. wink lol

Another key takeaway:

I do not belong in the public sector, in general, and higher education, in particular. They suck at marketing because they think they don't need to do it - that their value is self-evident.

They are wrong.

Thanks, but I actually quit before starting, did some research into that kind of work and it bored the shit out of me. The one I posted about before didn’t work out either though that interview went well, I’m blaming that on my expired cprand first aid thanks to covid

I’m really resentful that covid took away my routine where I balanced my social work and creative interests very well and was looking for a partner though I briefly dated a loser. Something good came out of it too like getting some poetry published, and sharing songs I wrote online, but I really wish my old routine was still there
